Return game

Is anyone else worried about Percy as a return man? The only reason I bring this up is for potential injuries. He is exciting, explosive and a threat anytime he touches the ball, I just want to limit those to the offensive side of the ball. If you agree, who could step up and take some of those duties away in the kick game, Tate or maybe a draft pick?

Like Kearly had in his latest mock draft hopefully we are going to take Denard Robinson late in the draft. He can be the full time returner with Percy in there occasionally.

Sorry you missed it Reno, this has been discused in great detail over the last couple of days.

Most people think there is not that much injury in returning kicks/punts. Mostly its covering/defending them.

If he can gain the extra yards on a return, there will be less offensive plays. It actually makes him healthier!

I fully expect the Hawks to use a late pick on a potential return man. They always throw guys out there for preseason to see what they've got, and you know there will be a new guy in the mix.

I missed that but I like that pick. Like it a lot for backup qb reasons mainly but then he brings versatility to special teams and maybe we can go 3 deep on the qb position

this. although i could see us letting tate return punts like he did sometimes last season as he will have a diminished role with harvin here (thats if tate stays around i still think theres a possibility we could shop him) but i also expect we can find someone that can be a backup and has return ability in the draft or already on the team.

I think this is an example of what Pete and John are doing with this team. They want weapons, and players that can do something that makes them special. They then allow these players to be who they are, and reap the benefits.

Percy was brought here to be the weapon he is....a triple threat. He will return kicks, he will be behind Russell, he will line up as WR. When they made the decision to bring him in, and ultimately pay him what they will, it is to benefit from his qualities. If you're not going to take advantage of what a player brings to the table, then don't bother having them on your team.

THIS is the new thinking and what is making this organization successful with Pete and John. They don't play this game with fear. You can't fear a player being hurt doing what makes him great.

Now he may not return every kick, but I'm sure he will return more than 50%.

I think the injury risk for kick returners is a myth. Where is the proof?

yes.. you still have players running into eachother full speed and the return guys get up to speed quick too.. one guys knee gets stuck out there and a returners leg hits it.. could spell a broken leg or any other number of ligament tears...

if this weren't the case then a lot more teams would be using stud rb/wr in the return game... but you dont see that do ya?
