Sure if it's to retire a Seahawk in the first game. Great leader, the team and fans love him, but there's a reason his snaps were way down by the end of his last year with us. We don't need a lineman who is only good at run defense anymore and by now he probably isn't great at that either.
We don't need a good run D? Why? Work him into the rotation, limit his snap count, keep him fresh, I think he'd be quite effective for another year. Let him go out in a blaze of glory
Because we have other linemen who are good at both run and passing defense. Red is one dimensional. His sole purpose was to clog up one side of the line in running situations. When teams passed with him out there, the only pressure we got was from Clem. At this point in his career he doesn't bring anything to the defensive line that we don't have. He definitely wouldn't start over anyone in our base defense and can't be brought in on passing downs.
Don't get me wrong, I love Red and everything he did from a leadership standpoint. Dude was the heart of our defense before Kam and Earl stepped up. Would be awesome for him to retire a Hawk.
