I remember this offseason how much Ken Norton was praising Wright. He kept saying that Wright is one of the best LBs in the NFL and how he was a special talent.

Some of that may have just been to motivate him and pump him up, but I think he also believes some of it. Norton is a big KJ Wright fan, so this may also just be a way for Norton to have one of his guys.

You never clarified your comment to be specific to "pehawk is saying". You generalized and looked for an easy route to speak as an authority and argue.

Yes, people who don't have substance to their negative comments is a very easy route to argue against, that we agree.

Check out the highest paid LB list

http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/linebacker/

You don't think Wright is on that list? The only LB's that have more tackles and sacks are playing in a 3-4 scheme, thus rush the passer much more than Wright, who's responsible for coverage.

Awesome for Wright. Really happy for him and the Seahawks.

Wright plays with the kind of size and physicality Carroll covets. He's part of the intimidation factor all teams face when they step on the field with our defense. I'd say that maybe Wright has had a bit of a down year, but we know what type of player he is. There are stretches when he's absolutely dominant. I'm thinking we might see a little of that in the playoffs.

Good day to be a Hawks fan.

Evidently, we are all idiots if we have an opinion other than people that idolize the F.O. or our out of the mainstream way of thinking.

Whatever. My eyes see what they see. We all will hopefully see him continue his RECENT play, and not the first half of the season play.
So if someone agrees with a move the FO makes they are now an idolizer?

If you're Okung, Unger, and Miller fans I would be concerned about their future on this team:

Okung is more or less damaged goods. Not one single 16 game season.

Unger has only been above average when healthy. LJP is pretty solid and I think they like Schilling who was okay considering the circumstances.

And Miller is probably replacable at this point especially if the Seahawks go on to win another Superbowl with the ragtag group they have at TE now.

Seahawks would free up a lot cap cutting tie with those 3 players.
Not really that much according to overthecap.com.

The net savings if Okung, Miller and Unger are cut pre-Jun1, 2015 is only $4.5M.

The gross savings is $10.0M but we take a $5.5M dead money hit.

Btw, Unger is signed through 2016 so I doubt that he gets cut pre-June 1, 2015.

Yeah Unger has two more years on his deal, and Okung's big cap hit was this year (11 M), so next year he's a bargain LT at 7M if you want him to play out his deal to prove he can stay healthy for a new deal............which I'd be fine with.

Miller's gone, I can't see Pete and John taking a 4M hit on his contract next year. He'll be in the Rice category of "if you wanna try and still play, come on back for training camp and we'll see what you got."

I think this signing is about accountability by the org that preaches put it on the field and in the meeting rooms and you will be rewarded. KJ himself admitted that the number he had in mind was less than what the org paid him. There will be some repercussions behind this signing. I still see Mebane with that $5.5M next year with a cap hit of $500K. Too bad he got hurt because no matter what, I think the FO was going to approach him with a Zach Miller/Sidney Rice/Chris Clemons/Red Bryant type scenario.

I never saw the team going a second contract with Avril and in my mind this cements it for me. We will see if that is what really happens but just my read of things.

I expected to see KJ hit the market and figured he would be with someone else next year. The team decided they value him more than I thought. I wasn't sure he was one of their core guys. Good for him and for continuity in the message delivered by the org. May not agree but they have their own ways of evaluation.

This isn't rocket science. Seattle wasn't about to just let KJ walk away and leave Wagner and a bunch of unproven roster scrum for the 2015 season. Malcolm Smith has been benched for a month now. Pretty much had to keep him.

Also, KJ may not be at his best at MLB, but he can play there. His versatility makes him worth a lot more.

Correct. You would not be able to pull off his "miniature Russell Crowe on Alderan, wearing a scarf" look.
Few can. I keep advising exfoliation and moisturizing before going outside to split logs or gut fish, but most just can't pull it off and those who do need to start at an early age.

As for the extension of Wright, I understand that the number might seem a little high, but let's just wait so see how things are actually structured. The deal might actually be quite reasonable. And even if it is less so, he's still a pretty good LB who fits our D quite nicely. He's sort of odd, but has those unique qualities that make him far more effective than less so.

I hate the "In John and Pete we trust" mantra, but in this case I'm comfortable with the deal. I'm meeting Paul for oysters and martinis in about an hour or so and will be sure to convey most of your wishes.

p.s. Okay, I don't really gut the fish I catch...have people for that.

If they cut Miller they only save 3 Mil not 4, and even then for the value he provides theres absolutely no way you cut him. He's only 28 and do we really wanna have to really on moeaki or another draft pick?

Guys with the huge jump in the projected salary cap the next few years couldn't have come at a better time for this organization. We will be able to keep a lot of core guys on the roster.
Don't kid yourself. We will be up against the cap without letting McDaniels, Avril, Maxwell and possibly one other player (J. Johnson?) go. Either that rob Peter (Offense) to pay Paul (Defense). I suppose it's a stetch to call any of those names 'core players,' but we better nail it when we replace them.

Put it this way; would you rather have KJ or KPL + Two Kevin Williamish Insurance types?
I understand that logic, but KPL hasn't proven he can stay healthy. 'Spidey' is a known commodity who consistently, fundamentally sound.

Not saying this guy is going to be Kam but remember when they signed Kam for that big deal?

There were a lot of upset people that felt it would hurt the shot at keeping Earl and Sherman.

A lot of people pointed out all the problems with Kam and how he was really the least important member of the LOB.

We know that to be untrue now. Kam turned out to be VERY important.

So while I won't say because the FO was right about that one it automatically means they are right now. But it does give them a little bit of a free pass. A lot of people were upset about that Kam extension too. Seems it worked out.

As long as they keep Bobby and Wilson, they should get whatever free passes they need.
That's another angle I won't dismiss. Kam is a very good example. We extend him and many, including me, question the amount because of his coverage skills. The following season he killed it and is still improving.

No, not really. Scotte, Vols, and Zebulon are all about the Bengals. Solid contributers though.

I will always take the word of random internet fans over a World Champion staff of coaches.

Because obviously, some guy on the internet who once played football in high school and coached his kid's little league team obviously knows a TON more about talent scouting linebackers than an entire paid staff of coaches. Yeah. Totally.

I also get all my stock picks from Jim Cramer, and believe everything Fox News tells me. My neighbor once told me that if you feed alka seltzers to seagulls their stomachs explode. I tried it and nothing happened, but I still believe.

Some random Joe on the interwebs told me that KJ sucks.

KJ's position coaches, coordinators, head coach and GM graded him out and determined that this deal was great for the team.

Who should I listen to? Hmmmm. The rando armchair GM who doesn't have the first clue how the team plays him, grades him and plans to use him in the future? Or the Superbowl winning coach and front office who have done nothing but win and find gems everywhere?

Boy, that's sure tough.
A Super-Bowl-winning, defensive-minded coach at that. [emoji6]
