If he's not already cleared to play this year, Penny's re-signing might lead to Chris Carson being cut.

With a post June 1st designation, that would save us another $4.6M in cap savings this year.

Last year at this time I would have bet money (and lost) that Penny would be long tone. I worried some team would throw bigger money at him and he'd bolt. Nice deal imo. Based on the dead money on Carson's deal after 2022 the team might have to make a decision next year on who they keep. This is insurance too if Carson can't come back

This was the signing I've been waiting for. Seattle needs players who return value above their salary cap hit if they have any chance of making a run at the playoffs. Penny's upside is easily worth twice what he's being paid.

He could also play marvelously, and you'd find something to Eeyore about. But you be you, xray; we wouldn't know you otherwise.

Certainly he could get injured. He could also stay healthy for the next 10 games and help us get to the playoffs.

He knows we don't have a QB and will be running the ball a lot more, whomever we bring in as QB or Lock will need a prove it season as well. Penny if healthy will get a ton of carries and yards if we can block worth a shit. His next contract will be his big payday if he stays healthy with numbers to back it up.
