I would like for us to put the tag on Earl, but I have a feeling the FO will want to pay him instead. He's Pete's guy and Pete's only 1st rounder that's a certain non-bust. Pete had to hurt the feelings of Mays to get him (LOL) and I won't be surprised if ET's a Hawk for life. With this team, I think he's the best in the business and I'd have no issue with him being compensated as such.

Okung is a certain non-bust, ability wise.

Goldson to me is a hard hitting beat like Kam.

I like ET as a corner, but not a safety. I rather have TJ Ward than ET.

If I didn't already have an awesome quote for my sig, I would want this one. It is craptacular.

This really seems like a troll.

ET is the most valuable person to this defense, more than Sherman,Clemons, etc.
He gives the defense so much flexibility. No doubt in my mind he'll remain on this team.

To me I don't believe he's worth what Goldson got.

Explain.

And have you been around long enough to see them all?

Please stop. Not every unpopular opinion is a troll.

@ the OP: Our DBs shrink the field by 9 yards on each side. Thomas patrols the rest. Kam is a great player, and you are right to value a big hitter. But remember, Hamlin was a big hitter. A guy who can control deep between the numbers almost by himself is pretty damn awesome.

Earl is the next Polamalu type player.

Except ET actually plays in games as opposed to populating the IR.

E.T. Is ALWAYS around the ball, always playing with high intensity and always making impact plays. His hands could be a little better. He should have had at least 3 more picks last year, but I think you are dead wrong about him NOT being a cornerstone and perfect compliment to what Kam brings. He will be signed and deserves a good contract.

Oh yeah.... E.T. Is mannnnnn

If the play of this secondary remains as it has, no one will be going anywhere. It will get figured out. These guys each fit a certain role that supports the other.

All of them can bring the wood. All of them can support the run stopping aspect of the defense, but ET has range like no other. If you watch him live at a game and focus on him, he can get anywhere from anywhere. Kamtrack is like a LBer that can close. BB is a freak of nature that muscles dudes to the ground frequently and Sherm is all over his guy on every play, literally letting his guy run in hopes that the QB throws his way.

Simply put, they have all the basis covered. Remember, outside of BB, these guys are just kids and BB has low NFL miles. They can still get better. JS is a magician, he will make it work if it is possible while they supplement the line with youth. I honestly believe that PC has 2 more years of kids he has been scouting from his USC days to get LBers and Dline guys. I think we are likely to see changes there before the secondary.

However, there is quite a stable of DBs to pick from, but ET is the reason the corners can get away with so much. He is a must have. Don't even want to think about the future money, I am going to enjoy it while I can.

I don't worry about it. When Thomas does get paid (in 2014 or 2015), he'll only be making about $4 million or $5 million a year more than he did on his rookie contract. That shouldn't be too tough to absorb.

The only Seahawks I am worried about contract wise are Tate and maybe Rice. I think both are worth keeping, but sacrifices have to be made somewhere and WR is the most logical place to start. I guess I am a little concerned about Sherman, in the event that he asks for Revis money. In the event that he demands $16 million per, I hope the Seahawks strongly consider trading him for multiple high draft picks as it would work out far better that way resource-wise.

Earl Thomas will be the last player to not get a contract on the defense. Unless he gets a massive injury he cant come back. Our secondary/defense couldn't function the way it does without him.

You better hope (and they will, not a doubt in anyone's mind) they resign ET if you "love Kam."

Kam's a strong safety/rover in our system but without Earl back there his game would drop dramatically.

I doubt it's that extreme. Part of the pregame before the SNF game against SF was about how despite their differences in size and primary skills our defense uses ET and Kam pretty interchangeably. That might change depending on match-ups and they also might have been wrong, but it's an interesting notion if it is in fact generally true.
