Steelers signed Russel Wilson and paid more than MM/JS wanted to pay for PQueen (if they wanted him at all... we don't know). Someone's going to be correct and someone's going to be wrong on both of those calls....

It seems like Seattle is looking at '25 and Tomlin might be taking on some risk to catch lightning in a bottle and win ASAP.

JS picked up BWagner and RWilson in '12.... Let's just do that again... no pressure.

He made his choice. That's how free agency works. The players get to choose. He made a dumb choice of course :ROFLMAO:

Seems reasonable.

A few possibilities,

Mcdonald knew Queen well enough that he was against signing Queen
Queen knew Mcdonald well enough that he didn't want to join the Hawks
Schneider and Mcdonald are working on signing someone not named Queen or Brooks
Schneider determined not to sign FA, draft draft draft.

Queen was a JAG before Smith got there. Mike worked with both of them and knows better than any what kind of player he is and how well he fits what Mike needs right now.

Same goes for Brooks. Seattle said that siging him was a priority, but did they see his value lower than he did? or did he just want out? Could be they didnt want to give him a three year deal, opting rather for two, and Brooks wanted more security. You couldnt fault either side if that was the case. Brooks IS still on the back end of a major knee surgery. Those kind of things tend to shorten careers even when players to come back '100%'.

What you CAN say about both Brooks and Queen is that regardless of the reason, neither player flashed Roquan Smith, difference maker ability when they were featured without an experienced All pro next to them. So maybe Mike is thinking we can hit on a 'next tier' backer like Josey Jewell or Devon White (or both) and find their All Star in the draft, this year or next.

Edit - Scratch the Jewell idea...

Isaiah Simmons?

Could be much simpler. Just too much $$$$ right now. The team has other, more urgent needs.

Doesn't have to be an indictment of one or the other (Queen or MM).

I get it that this is an unbelievably important signing that all Seahawks fans want to know about and not need to dig thru another thread not dedicated to this very important news but why does this have it's own thread?
Shouldn't this go in the "Free Agent News--Other Teams" thread"?
Asking for a friend.

That's what I was thinking . If MM and JS wanted Queen , they would've made a move to get him . They might've actually done that but came up short.

We as fans get things in our heads then wonder when their teams don't do what we think they're supposed to do.

If they REALLY wanted him here, he would be here. I think Mike knows that the thing that took Queen from average to very good was R Smith. Why pay top dollar to a dude who NEEDS a superior sidekick to play to his pay grade. Mike wants a R Smith. He wasn't there in FA. He's not there in this years draft. So, stock the roster instead and win with scheme and talent IN FRONT of your LBs and wait for 2025.
