The NFL is far from powerless. They can file an appeal, and guess who hears the appeal? Roger Goodell.

I also disagree that they've gone light on previous offenses. Calvin Ridley made a bet that his team would win a game, and he got suspended for the entire 2022 season, perhaps longer, and will lose over $11M in salary. DeShaun Watson had 24 lawsuits for sexual assault filed against him, and he gets 6 weeks and will forfeit less than $1M.

And if you want to talk precedent, in the only case similar to Watston's, Ben Worthlessburger had two unproven sexual assault accusations and was suspended for 6 games that got reduced to 4. If we were to use that as a guide, ie 2 games per unproven accusation, then Watson's 24 accusations would translate to a 48 game suspension, nearly 4 years. That's how outrageous this ruling is.
Huh. Well, that clears that up. I admittedly was not following as closely and had an incorrect view of the situation. Guess this is more interesting than I thought...

Chalk one up for the gold diggers. No proof other than a woman's hand out looking for cash.

"Oh he did that to you? Um well, me too, give me money too, ah, I mean he did that to me too".
Are you just... oooh idk a sexist ? Between the Mina shit and this I have to wonder. If so.. well I got nothing other than maybe keep that shit in the politics sub forum or the smack shack lol.

as for everyone else, it'll be interesting to see what'll happen. A lot of people think the NFL would've been happy and content with 8, but Watsons camp would've appealed. Anything less puts he NFL kind of on the edge and probably makes them uneasy. But Watsons camp has agreed to not appeal.

This definitely puts pressure on Goodell since Calvin ridley got suspended for a year for lesser really... even DeAndre Hopkins punishment is stupid. Both guys did less and got more or equal punishment... But yeah, as stated before it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Yeah, they have 72 hours to file an appeal, so they need to decide by Thursday. Judging by the reaction, with social media literally exploding in outrage over the arbitrator's decision yesterday, I think it's a foregone conclusion that they'll file an appeal, set up their kangaroo court, and issue a season long suspension.

It would make no sense for Watson's camp to appeal as they still would have had Goodell as the person hearing it, and there's no way he would issue a lighter suspension than the arbitrator. Goodell works for the owners.

But I agree completely with your 2nd paragraph. Once the arbitrator issued a suspension, she accepted the league's argument that a breach of the policy had occurred vs. the union's argument to the contrary. It would have made more sense had she completely exonerated him and not suspend him at all, saying that the league failed to prove their case.

The other factor that the arbitrator might have considered is the league's light-handed treatment of owners being accused of similar conduct (Kraft, Snyder, and Jones). But is going light on Watson any kind of remedy for the situation surrounding Watson? Two wrongs don't make a right.

Judging by the reaction to the arbitrator's decision on social media, IMO the league has no choice but to appeal and issue a much stronger suspension. The women's groups are going ballistic, and I don't blame them a bit.

I am not sexist at all. I want proof and I am not willing to convict a man for a woman's word. Innocent until PROVEN guilty, so the current edge falls to him.

Are you telling me women don't lie about being raped? Are you new?

That's why the grand jury didn't indict Watson on charges. It's extremely difficult to get credible eyewitness testimony on these types of crimes because it's usually a he said/she said scenario with little, if any, physical evidence.

Plus in this case, a good defense attorney would tear into these women's credibility if the case ever went to trial. Many of them are nothing but glorified prostitutes as it's common knowledge that there's lots of 'rub and tug' services available at most of these establishments (just ask Robert Kraft). A lot of them would take the 5th, leaving the prosecution without any eyewitness testimony.

And the government would be put in an embarrassing situation, as law enforcement and regulators have been giving these establishments a wink and a nod for decades. They could turn up minors, forced labor, human trafficking, illegal immigrants. That's how Kraft got nabbed, as they were doing a sting operation on a suspected human trafficking operation. They'd be opening up a can of worms.

There's no doubt that many, if not most, of these women are gold diggers. But when there's as many accusations as there are in this case, it's inconceivable that they're all lying. The fact that he's paid off all but one of the 24 that filed charges is essentially an admission of guilt. Watson almost certainly isn't guilty of every accusation, but he's damn sure guilty of enough of them to be suspended for more than just 6 games.

According to the judge, they made their case and proved it. It was the NFLs own by-laws and ambiguity on sexual violence that prevented a more severe suspension

LOL they proved it. Yet no other actual court system or lawyers with more information than the NFL could.

Don't worry my guy if you are sexist apparently my wife is too; as she doesn't buy the whole situation ... as a woman

In fact none of these women accused him of "rape" anyways, let alone "sexual violence"

Late night massage parlors with no cameras.. at home massage services... and the only credible cases were the ones without the accusers being paid escorts as well

People trying to compare this to Ben's case are hilarious and simply see what they want to see

The NFL has now filed it's appeal of the 6 games, so the fur will now fly. I'd expect 10-17 games will be the result, if they compromise.

Otherwise it'll be a year.

Are you saying men always tell the truth? Especially when it comes to rape or sexual assault

Guys this is an emotive subject. Please keep the discussion relevant to the NFLs actions and ongoing ban saga. Discussions about peripheral subjects from the case would be better discussed elsewhere. Personal attacks will not be tolerated as always in this forum.

Did I say that? Then no, I am not saying that. What a random question.

It seems as if the impartial arbitrator had her mind made up well before she had heard all of the evidence to be presented:

If you were going to trace the NFL’s Deshaun Watson appeal back to a starting point, to a juncture where it became likely the league was going to overturn a decision from independent arbitrator Sue L. Robinson, it would have been early in the disciplinary hearing attended by Watson and his legal camp, along with representatives from the NFL and NFL Players Association.

That’s when the league’s lawyers were first informed by Robinson that the NFL very likely was not going to land the indefinite one-year suspension it was seeking for the Cleveland Browns quarterback, multiple sources familiar with the proceedings told Yahoo Sports.

It was a revelation that Robinson delivered in front of everyone in attendance, sources said. It instantly established an eyebrow-raising blow to the NFL’s effort to impose a landmark suspension of Watson, who was accused of sexual misconduct or sexual assault against multiple women, a violation of the league's personal conduct policy. It was a moment that surprised some in attendance, who wrongly assumed Robinson wouldn’t tip her hand on a potential ruling in the middle of the process.

If that's true, then I find it to be outrageous. Ms. Robinson not only admitted that Watson had breached the terms of the Personal Conduct Policy, she characterized Watson's conduct as “the most egregious” the NFL has ever seen, yet she issues discipline that is nothing more than a slap on the wrists. How in the heck did a person like her ever get to be a judge?

That's usually the case with 1 accuser.
