If you go back and look at the teams in the NFL that did tank jobs to get their guy, you don't see a ton of successes after the fact.
It makes me wary of the tank approach. In hindsight not sure they got much.

How many examples of a team tanking have worked out?

Good points. Tanking is ridiculous. You play to win the game. Herm was on point.
So many busts at QB over the years in the top 10.

This team would be pretty exciting with Baker. Bummer that never happened.
Yep. Regardless of anyone's opinion on Baker as a player and person, he's a guy who leaves it all on the field. You don't see that kind of passion often enough.

I love how tough that guy is, he cares and he plays hard. Not saying he's a great QB, but he def. would have been a much better choice than what he have.
I've said it many times, if the team is going to suck, why not at least be entertaining? Baker would bring some legit excitement. They had their shot, none of us know if or what they offered.

Tanking in this case means not trying to field tge best qb you can.

Geno starter = tanking
Lock = likely tanking

Mayfield led the Browns to the playoffs.

THE BROWNS.

In the past 5 years, he has more playoff victories than the Russ-led Seahawks.

with THE BROWNS.

If that doesn't indicate some amount of talent, I don't know what does.
He had a sh*t ton of talent around him. He had one good 11 game stretch out of 61 games. How did he do the other 50 games? Last I checked he led the league in interceptions

We wont need to even consider tanking unless something spectacular happens at the QB position.
Presently, at QB, we are behind the Zorn and Kreig days, at about the level of the Seneca Wallace, Tarvaris Jackson days and way behind Hass and RW days.
We knew going in it would be rough. Next year is the beginning of the payoff.

I think "the plan" is to assemble the worst possible team then try hard to win so that they can get a high draft pick while looking like they're serious about winning. I hope Pete and John's "plan" works and they get the picks then are terminated at the end of the season so we can get a fresh start.
