Who ends up returning punts day 1? Richard Sherman is currently listed by seahawks.com to be the de-facto punt returner with the departure of Tate. Do you think they let their 60mil dollar corner return? Do the let the rookie Paul Richardson have a go? What do you think?

I just feel it is Richardson's to lose.

I would be pleasantly surprised if he wins one of the top 3 spots at WR this year, so I think the best chance to get him on the field besides the occasional passing play would be as PR.

Absolutely no chance Sherman returns punts

Doug Baldwin did his fare share of returns last season. (albeit kick returns)

But I wouldn't put it past Harvin as a punt returner either.. We all remember DeSean Jackson's "Miracle In the Meadowlands" from '09 - he was their starting wideout too..

I say put the most dangerous weapon you have as punt returner - my vote goes to Harvin. (assuming he stays healthy 8) )

Percy? He absolutely won't be an option. He says he can't even track the ball and hates even trying it. Logically it would be Richardson's to lose. If he does it would probably go to Baldwin.

I voted Baldwin, just strikes me as being more shifty in a phone booth type to elude oncoming pursuer's . . .

but hope it's PR, as if he breaks contain and hits the NItrous . . . too the house !

The #1 punt returner right now is Phillip Adams. Richardson does not have the frame to take the pinball pounding that punt returners regularly take in heavy traffic, nor does he have any experience returning punts (and spare me the "Desean Jackson says Hi" replies; Paul Richardson is not Desean Jackson, particularly as a proven punt returner). The only other potentially viable option from the OP's list is Doug Baldwin, and that's it. Harvin is absolutely not an option. Jeremy Lane could get a look, and Christine Michael would be a long-shot option. Again, for now, it's Adams' job to lose.

Can you really say 'absolutely no chance', when the organization willing chose to list him as #2 on the depth chart all of last season, knowing that there was a possibility Tate goes down and Sherman might have to take the reigns? Isn't that what a depth chart indicates? Who has the highest chance of replacing the starter? Who is most likely "the next man up"?

Ok, no. Is Phillip Adams even going to make the team? Probably Not.

Also, Spare me this Richardson is not Jackson bull crap. Who knows what Richardson is capable of as a returner?

When DJack ran his combine he was 5096, 169 pounds. His current weight is 175.

P-Rich ran his combine he was 6003, 175 pounds. His current weight is 183, his target playing weight is 190.

So, hmmm...so you can throw your slender frame argument out the window because once again you act like your the smartest dude in the room all matter of factly and brash but at least know what you're talking about.

You don't need returning experience to be a returner. And a guy who is a balls to the walls deep threat extrordinaire can presumably track a deep ball from the other way.

But I also doubt Richardson will be the guy, he screams KR more than PR. The best PRs around the league are usually shorter guys who can navigate through traffic better using a lower center of gravity. So... it will either be:

1. Percy Harvin (with Baldwin and Richardson replacing him on Kick-Offs)
2. Christine Michael

I think it will be Michael. He has the instant explosiveness, the COD skills, Play-Making Ability, Can run through tackles or spin out of them ala Tate, he's compact and fast. Plus, Seahawks will be looking for ways to get him on the field more.

Word. DB is too damn valuable...especially in Tate's absence. I know the numbers suggest "few injuries returning punts" and "Tim Brown did it for 65 years", but injuries do happen and as potent of a threat as Richardson is wide, I'd sooner gamble his health than Dougies. Plus, I think Richardson is more explosive. So there's that.

Harvin returning kicks and PR returning punts? Dayummmm.

My thoughts are we have a bunch of DB's that are fast also, does any have experience in returning punts? Other then the Starters that is.

My guess is it comes down to Richardson or Michael, whichever makes the best job of it in camp. The only other person on the OPs list thatI think might have a shot is Lockette and I'm not sure he'll even make the 53.

Michael for me. He has return experience from A&M and is pretty explosive.
Michael did not return punts at A&M.

Michael returned a total of ten kickoffs in his career at A&M (all coming in '09 and '10) but zero punts. He had nine kickoff returns for 201 yards (22.3 yards per return) with a long of 44 yards as a true freshman in 2009.

PR = Punt Returner :)

CU coach also said Paul won't reach 190#. "Low 180s" is his max. He also said this Richardson can catch a point but said nothing about him actually returning punts. They had another player at Colorado returning punts. Might have been in order to protect their one ands only offensive weapon.

And no way does Sherman return punts just because he is listed on the depth chart. I doubt Pete is the one who maintains the depth chart. Why risk that much cap space to injury when we don't even know if he's capable of doing punt returns in the NFL?

It's a great way to get Christine Michael on the field. Doug Baldwin is a good option. Maybe even Philip Adams or Jeremy Lane.

It's a tough job though, and a good way to get injured or have a turn over.

I would be okay with Richardson returning punts if he had plenty of experience doing it at the collegiate level. Learning how to be an NFL-caliber punt returner in your rookie season just seems like an unjustifiable risk, especially for someone like Richardson with a smaller frame.

I'm not sure who will be the returner, but can totally see Baldwin returning if whoever it is starts screwing things up.

It might end up that we have to expect someone with no experience to learn to do it and do it quickly. Because there aren't really any options that are a lock to make the roster that have PR experience. They have asked more of rookies before.
