"this TEAM as a teacher" ? i dont get it tbh...

Side note: I get why he's avoiding the team.. but ya know if he just cut the BS and said it outright (he's hurt, he's upset, he's embarrassed) I would respect him more than I already do. But Pete's a mountain of positivity really.. whether if its the salesman hopeful type or just in general, I still wish him well. Glad to see he's doing other stuff now.

Also not shocked he ended back up at USC/California.

I think it's supposed to be "this TIME." Looks like the proofreaders also fell victim to ESPN's layoffs.

Similar story but imo there's a little bit more.. not a whole lot and the way its formatted makes more sense
most wild thing from this link though that is this tidbit

Carroll has been seen attending a few UW practices to check out his son’s offense as well as the defense of Steve Belichick, son of longtime NFL coach Bill Belichick.

Because you know you have like the NFL's two most prominent former head coaches in the 2010's/2000's Side by side on the same field, both sons working for the same team, hence they're rooting for the same team.. 🤯

Doubt Pete is embarrassed or holding a grudge. He understands the business. I'm sure he's a little hurt and will carry some emotional attachment, but I think his reasoning for staying away is completely genuine

The underpinning of Pete Carroll's philosophy on coaching is that a coach should be wholly authentic to themselves. They should figure out what's important to them and live by that ethos without fail.

If he's staying away, I think it's two-fold. No reason to stay around after being fired, but also, his philosophy on coaching would make it almost like sabotage for him to involve himself too deeply.

His whole thing is that coaches should have the latitude and autonomy to build the culture of an organization in their image. It wouldn't be totally consistent with his worldview to insert himself.

Well he's close by if Lincoln Riley makes the jump to the NFL.

I thought PC would have made a great emergency replacement for DeBoer when he unceremoniously left. The guy has major cache as a college head coach. It would have created a real buzz and likely kept recruits and players from leaving. Nothing against Fisch. He seems fine.

I thought that whole "advisor" thing for PC was like some cheap consolation prize you throw in the trash after you've left the room. I never thought for an instant that he was going to have much of anything to do with the organization after the firing.

The only thing I wonder about was how blind-sided PC was by the firing? Surely he must have had some inklings that his job may be on the line. If he was mostly ignorant of this possibility, then he was a bit out of touch with ownership, and had an over-inflated sense of job security based upon his record and legacy as the team's coach.

He's likely done as a HC in the NFL just based upon his age, and I have a tough time envisioning him in any other role. But I could see him getting offered a decent HCing gig in college again.

I agree Maelstrom. I think both points are valid , yet the 2nd one rings a little louder (to me)

It's not HIS culture anymore and for him to hang around , would be to get in MMs way.

Good to read Pete is enjoying well earned time away from the game. He delivered on everything Paul asked of him. He was and is a difference maker .... wherever he goes.
Heartily seconded! Going back to USC makes a lot of sense for Pete, he is so good at teaching young people.

Here's another source:

Pete still has a lot of valuable information and thinking to pass on. Happy to see him returning to his roots. Loved him while he was here but in the end his time was up here.

I'm sure many of you might have read this already.

I have a comment and a question:

Question: WTF would he be 'teaching'?!?!

Comment: That's pretty classy purposely staying away to let the new guard own the program.

You can question the last 1/3 of his reign all ya want, but Pete's a class act, and always has been.

And I put this in the Seahawks forum. Not the 'around the NFL' - 'cause it's not around the NFL, and it didn't feel like lounge material. Mods move it if ya gotta.

:)

Nah, you good.

Pete is a beloved figure for all of us 12s. No matter our debates over his coaching, over-loyalty, being out-coached X's and O's-wise at times, nobody can argue the run of success he had as our Head Coach. His positivity and leadership will resonate for decades.

What he would be teaching is how to be a success no matter what your endeavors. He is an incredible life coach. That alone should warrant a spot as a teacher to young folks. Anybody can go out and find a job, scrape by, pay your bills, et al. How do you go beyond that and excel at life?

I think Pete is more than qualified to help answer that question.

Probably his best quality is that he saw, respected and honored each individual and let them be who they were. Cultivating a culture of respect with one common focus to succeed. Some coaches want to mold people, change them to be what their definition of success is. It's why Lynch loved playing here. Lynch would have bottomed out big time in many other coaching systems.

So yes, there is a lot that young people can discern from Pete Carroll. Not just how to win football games but to win at life.

Pete and John's partnership was just so right and complementary. Pete can express ideas without needing multiple 'ya know' and 'like'; John can sit and stare at agents or players in negotiations with his tiger eyes.

They needed each other.

Yeah, John isn't exactly a silver-tongued speaker. Just lots of awkward attempts at being funny.
