the refs will suck and steer games no matter who is playing. I don’t expect anything different in our game.

Yeah. Maybe. But I think the NFL knows that although the Niners story is a good one, they cannot possibly sustain the level of competitiveness they have shown against better teams (top 8 teams). And the NFL doesn't want yet another SB or Conference Championship that ends in a blowout.

The resurgent Seahawks vs Rams in a rematch is a better story the 9ers Rams.

It's the game against the Rams that I would be worried about being 'effected' by the refs. Stafford, Puca and McVay are stars. Stafford is an MVP. Them against anyone in the AFC would bring solid ratings.

But... Our defense has its own draw. The rebirth of Boom. A return to physical, suffocating football. The possible complete resurrection of Sam Darnold's career. The elevation of MM to a championship coach. And further... A possible Hawks Broncos SB rematch, or better yet, Hawks Pats.

-- Well, I don't know if what I am about to say will calm folks or make the tinfoil hats even more suspicious. Most the calls mentioned aren't really made by the head referee. And in playoff games, in these earlier rounds, the league uses mixed crews. If anyone on, in this case, Hussey's crew, didn't grade out well enough to be a playoff official, then they are replaced by someone from another crew who was.

-- Stable people will take this to mean the predictability of "what his crew did before" to be less effective, as his crew could have several new officials on it. However, to the lets start pre-blaming the officials group, it just means the league can even further manipulate the types of officials who could make things tougher for the Hawks.

-- Think of it whatever way you want, I will just say we need Sam to play better, as I don't think 13 points will win this one. But if I recall correctly, the Niners have the worst pass rush win rate in the league, so he has time to make the better decisions. Fully rounded teams are really hard to stop, so just need that one more cog to fall into place.

Well, it's not Sam's fault Myers missed 2 field goals. He had zero turnovers. I'll take that again. Minus the missed field goals.

Again, he had NO turnovers. That, to me, means he made better overall decisions.

True, but also true that the Rams, who were one of the least penalized teams in the league before Puka went off the rails, have been one of the more penalized teams since.

Actually, the Rams have one of the smaller fan bases in the NFL. The NFL is frustrated by the lack of traction that the Rams and the Chargers have had in LA. I live in LA, and I think this is just not a football town.

Recently, at least by some measures, the Seahawks surpassed the 49ers to become the 7th most popular team in the NFL. Patriots, Steeler and Chiefs are the top 3 in the AFC with the Cowboys, Eagles and Packers the top 3 in the NFC (with the Seahawks 4th).

By most measuring sticks, the Seahawks are among the most followed teams in the NFL, and in every ranking, the Rams are in the bottom half. If there was a conspiracy, the NFL would prefer the Seahawks over the Rams in the big game.

I think Seattle fans, maybe have a lingering feeling of insecurity that isn't really warranted anymore. No one is ignoring the Seahawks just because they're in Seattle. In this day and age, you can live in Florida and be a Seahawks fan. Geography is no longer as big a factor as it used to be.

I'm not stating the data to support any financial conspiracy theory on the NFL's part.

I'm stating that since Puka went of the rails, and spoke the truth about the NFL's problem with officiating, the Rams have gone from one of the least penalized teams to among the most. It's entirely possible that this trend continues, and old data regarding their "disciplined play" may not apply any more.

Great stuff
Also...

The Hawks are probably the most popular team in Germany. That might not sound like much, but Germany is the second largest NFL market in the world behind the US and their fans are hardcore.

Good point.

It certainly didn't help our cause in our SB back in 2004 when before the game, Holmgren in a presser said he hoped that Bill Leavy and his crew were up to the task.

Human emotions are real. Never a good idea to get on the refs bad size.

Tinfoil hat stuff, but if I'm an NFL exec, I'm trying to generate more revenue by optimizing the highly populous LA market... more championships = more fans = more revenue. Rams' recent SB run definitely seemed like it had some "assists"

Come on guys. I’ve been feeling great about this game. Why do you have to post this bs. Ignorance is bliss. 😂
Some people just enjoy taking on the role of proverbial rain on the parade. ;)

Yes, sorry, my post wasn't meant to be a direct response to your post. It was just generally addressing the issue that some here have about the NFL wanting the Rams in the big game for ratings. If I were the NFL, the dream match up would be Patriots-Cowboys, or maybe Packers-Chiefs, and the Rams would not be in my top 10 for TV ratings.

Yes. How dare Sam miss 2 FGs!!:eek:

How dare Sam call a Pass play on 1st and Goal at the 1-yard line!!:eek::eek:

Doesn't he know that a QB is supposed to kick FGs AND be the OC of the team?

Ratings for a specific game is short term revenue. Building fan bases = longer term sustained revenue.

This is why we're seeing all these NFL games overseas.
