or (3) The plan was ALWAYS to start McCarthy and that Sam was there on borrowed time from the get-go.

Sam would've had to have won the SuperBowl for them to deviate from that plan.

That team is built to win now, and that's a fleeting thing. They're gambling their window on a "rookie" that played one quarter of preseason football (and wasn't a consensus first rounder in the first place).

yeah well that's the choice they made so if (or rather WHEN) McCarthy crashes and burns (while Sammy D helps lead the Hawks to the playoffs and a couple of playoff wins), they will have only themselves to blame.

Kevin O'Connell, the head coach; Wes Phillips, the OC; Josh McCown, the QB coach; Grant Udinski, Assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks, and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah the GM; collectively risked their careers and reputations for not re-signing Darnold after his probowl season.

From this bunch, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is the opposite of our John Schneider. Kwesi was a Princeton (Bs) and Stanford (Ms) guy, he is probably a 40 years old virgin, right? Our great President of football operations may not have college but a true football guy.

Or are they quietly still believing that Rodgers is going to land with them before the season starts?

They made that decision when they drafted JJ and no it wasn't a gamble on their careers.
Your comments on JS is such a pathetic way of dissing on him. No one is saying the Vikings are idiots and JS is a super genius on these moves but given their respective situations they make sense.

You don't take a high first round draft pick to sit him on your bench period.
Geno wanted to go play for Pete so JS got the best available option out there for a deal that both sides liked.
JS has navigated this off-season very well imo as he did moving on from Russ and picking Geno up off the streets a few years earlier.
I think he did well hiring Mcdonald too.
