He's probably their first choice, but he's going to have a lot of suitors. He was a hot commodity last year but opted to stay with the Lions.

I think that'd be a good move for the Bears. Actually thought they should have been in on Belichick last offseason. Talentwise, they really aren't that bad; actually have some great pieces on defense.
I'd be curious who he'd bring in to run the offense. Like us, their offensive line performs worse than their talent and they have a QB who plays like a rookie.

I was under the impression that there was mutual interest with Ben Johnson, and that's probably the best route for them to take, but if that doesnt work out for whatever reason, Pete would be a great hire to get their franchise at least moving in the right direction.

Ben’s stock will be off the charts if Detroit wins this year. Chicago would be crazy to not pull out the stops for a guy whose expertise is beating teams on the NFC North.

Yeah, not taking various HC opportunities last year and sticking with the Lions vastly increased his market value this season. I'm not sure if his preferred job is the Bears, though. He'll have the pick of 6-7 teams.

Carroll needs to hang it up in the NFL. If he got hired, he would be 74 by the time the season started, which would make him the oldest coach ever to be HC. If you're trying to build long term stability, how long can you expect a guy like that to hang around?

I get it, the guy is a legend in Seattle, but it was clear by the end that he had lost touch with the modern NFL. Even though he's great at establishing culture, that culture took him a few years to cultivate in Seattle, it didn't happen over night. One of the big things about Carroll's tenure in Seattle is he WAS the big boss. The GM had to answer to him, in fact, Carroll is the one that hired Schneider. He's not likely to get that same arrangement in Chicago. Why does this matter? Carroll could cut and discipline malcontents and people that didn't buy into his message. Carroll had complete control of the roster, something most coaches don't.

In addition to that his choice in coordinators were highly suspect, in addition to this he hung onto them for way too long.

Carroll was perfect for Seattle and he lead us to great heights, but hiring him as a coach now to build your program is not advisable. By the time he left, it was clear that he had lost touch with the modern NFL. Up until 2022 the Seahawks were running their base defense more than any other team in the NFL. This is despite the rest of the NFL running most of their packages out of various nickel and dime packages. Carroll's response was to hire someone that had no experience to implement a very complex defense scheme.

In addition to that Pete Carroll's teams haven't fielded a top 10 defensive unit for almost a decade, and even that team was fielding some of the LOB members. His playoff record since his last Super Bowl run in Seattle is also very bad. If Minnesota's kicker, Walsh doesn't miss an easy go ahead fieldgoal, Carroll would have 2 playoff wins to his name in a 10 year span. Who were those wins against? A Detroit Lions team that backed into the playoffs, featuring a Matt Stafford that was playing on a bad ankle and bad shoulder. A Philadelphia Eagles team featuring a 40 year old Luke McCown.

Are there worse hires than Carroll? Sure, but he's also a coach that is clearly in his waning years of relevance in the NFL. I think at this juncture his best move would be to serve as an advisor, or perhaps even as a GM, where he can focus all of his time on scouting.

The Bears would be fools to not go hard after Ben Johnson. As much as Pete has done for the Hawks, I truly believe his NFL coaching days are done.

I can't believe Pete would consider moving to Chicago. After California and Seattle Chicago would be an enviro shock he could not deal with.
