Actually, they need to run 75% of the time against the Rams. If DeMarco Murray and that line got 200, Lynch might just go AP on them. That game in Stl. was a modern marvel of incompetence.

I disagree. I think we need to open the offense up again like we did the 2nd half of last season. We're 4-1 in spite of being very predictable on offense, if this continues and the defensive turnovers dry up, then we're going to be in close games with mediocre teams that have no business being close.

Mr Bevell I presume? We opened it up in the 2nd half against the Colts, and, well.

Against teams like the Rams or Colts, just do what works.

This. We're a run first team and need to continue to pound the ball with Beast Mode. I love seeing Russ ball out on D's but if it aint working, dont continue to force the issue.

We opened it up against the Colts in the 2nd half? That was more Indy making halftime adjustments to blitz more and stop Lynch than us making a concerted effort to open up the passing game. The Hawks would have been content letting Lynch continue to run wild on the Colts like he did in the first half.

We'll agree to disagree Sgt. Largent. Lynch only got 5 carries in the 2nd half and I'm of the assumption the Hawks SHOULD own most 3-4 teams. But, especially one that boasts Redding and Mathis. I'm speaking about running the ball only.

Not to piss in everyone's cheerios, but how exactly will we use him ? I haven't seen a quick slant and maybe 2 bubble screens thrown all year. The stuff Harvin thrives on, is the stuff we don't seem to utilize.
That is a legit question but I think you underestimate how much play calling does (and should) depend on personnel. Harvin will get plenty of backfield snaps on passing downs; including most of that short stuff you see to Lynch and Coleman. Bevell also lined him up both outside and inside in Minnesota, and plenty of his highlight reel consists of getting separation 20+ yards down the field.

Harvin belongs in the discussion when we talk about our offense to this point. He was our blockbuster acquisition and the focus of much of our draft and salary capital. The value signings this off-season obscured just how much we went in on Harvin, but consider what a first round pick plus a 67 million/6 year contract is worth in today's NFL. The 25th pick last year received a 4 year deal with a cap number of just $2 mil/year, and if we had drafted a guy like DeAndre Hopkins instead we would be paying him $50 million less than Harvin. That is significant for any team, but especially a team like ours that has a lot of players to resign in the next few years.

That leads me to two conclusions:
1. They are counting on a huge amount of production from Harvin.
2. If you assume that we will get Harvin back in time for a playoff push, then evaluation of the offense today without Harvin reveals an incomplete picture. Any offense would struggle when it loses such a significant component; look no further than the Patriots offense.

Looks like this thread has been derailed.

We abandoned the run in the 2nd half. It was pathetic, but Colts did a great job at keeping us from moving the ball too much.

I still am hoping to see Harvin play a little against the Vikings...in person. :)

Bevell and Carroll would never, and I repeat NEVER abandon the run unless they had to. The run game is in every fiber of their being, and is the cornerstone of our offense. If opposing teams let us, we'd run it on every play. The Colts forced us to abandon it, plain and simple.

There's no other reason for lack of carries for Beast. The Colts defense make some nice changes, but there's still no way for that defense to contain our run game.

DIng--ding-ding...winner.

The offense was developed this offseason with Harvin in mind.

Cuz a 28th vs the run defense can just STOP our running game? Not buying it. We abandoned the run. And it WAS pathetic.

Horrible coaching decision to just leave the run. It was working, big time, in the first half. That D was getting tired, and we should have seen them pounding the rock all fricken day.

1 rush for Beast in the 4th qtr. That is pathetic and should never happen

We cannot open Up the offense with 4 backups playing on the OL and Miller on the sidelines.

Stay on TOPIC, this thread is about Percy not the offensive coordination. There is 57 other Topics on the forumto complain about that on.

I like the idea of bringing harvin in on week 7

You guys do realize that the Colts chewed up almost all of the 4th quarter clock with their own drives and that we burned all of our timeouts early, right? Not exactly perfect circumstances to run the ball with time winding down. This team doesn't abandon the run "just cuz." Never has.

This dude is Doc on the east coast and works with football guys I believe.

"
@JeneBramel: Too soon to say Harvin will be back by X week. But Week 9-10 is within that 12-16 week sweetspot. Next hurdle is first post-PUP practices."

I'd guess Harvin will be back possibly for MNF @ Rams if he's really coming back fast, otherwise against the Bucs @ home.

OT: I would really like to see Sherm take a snap at WR against Revis; I understand someone would cheap shot him but it'd be fun to see.
