As things progressed throughout the week, the more and more I began to doubt that Harvin would play tonight (despite all the optimistic reports out there). The more I've thought about that, the more certain I am that sitting him is probably the right move.
Think about it -- not only is this is a guy who is coming off surgery (and is of course in the process of rehabbing) ... he is also in the process of getting himself back in football shape. Training Camp opened on July 25th. He had surgery on August 1st, so he not only missed all of the Pre-season ... he basically missed all of training camp as well.
Not only that, but Harvin missed a lot of time LAST season as well. He injured his right foot clear back on November 4th facing the Seahawks (kind of ironic if you think about it) ... and missed the next 3 games after that. The Vikings finally placed him on IR on December 6th, ending his season.
So, Harvin hasn't actually seen the field since facing us clear back on that November 4th game in Seattle last season. In total, he missed 7 games last season ... and has thus far missed 7 games this season. That is a lot of time.
Yes, I know that Harvin has been working out since being cleared by the doctors to begin his rehab in September ... but that's not the same thing as being in football shape. Of course he's sore because he's not fully in football shape yet IMO.
Personally, I'd say that the Seahawks are handling this correctly. Of course Percy is champing at the bit to get back on the field ... but that doesn't mean that he should necessarily be on it at this point. The worse thing in the world would be to rush him out there ... and then for him to re-injure himself because of that and lose him for the entire season.
Honestly, after taking an in depth look at this match-up tonight ... I'm quite confident in saying that the Hawks really don't need Harvin in this game. If that's the case (and he's sore), then why not be a bit conservative and give it a few more days. I know that fans are clamoring to see him, but this just seems like the prudent move to me.
