Ok, maybe this should be in the NFL forum, but hear me out.

Does this game change anything related to how we interpret the Seahawks win against the Patriots?

I would argue it doesn't. To me it looked like the Jets used the blueprint of our second half, to design a game plan that largely neutered New England's offense, and took advantage of their poor pass defense.

Rodgers had a solid night, going 27/35 for 281 yards (Smith was 33/44 for 327), while the Jets held Brissett to 12/19 for 98 (Hawks held him to 15/27 for 149)

The Jets had a significantly better rushing attack (109 on 27 carries from their main backs compared to Charbonnet with 38 yards on 14 carries), while holding the Pats running backs in check better than we did (52 yards on 11 carries, compared to 177 yards on 32 carries, a fairly similar average per carry, though)

All this seems to point to an offensive line for the Hawks that couldn't do its job, which neutered our rushing attack, and kept NE in the game. That meant they didn't have to resort to passing to keep the game close.

The Jets defense was able to get home better, registering 7 sacks to our 3. I didn't see the official stat, but it seemed we were in the backfield more, reflecting our league leading pass rush that hasn't had success finishing yet.

Just some interesting thoughts.

I think there are too many variables to compare the two. Pats going to Maye mid game, on the road, short week etc.... Every game and opponent is different. Miami will test the Hawks a bit but without Tua will still have an *. But Monday Night 9/30, on the road against Detroit will be the one that answers some questions for sure about where the Hawks really are at IMO.

I try not to dismiss a win in the NFL. Even teams that are considered to be garbage are good . Parity is real , a game is usually decided by a few key stats, coaching decisions etc..

2 games and Seattle could easily be 1-1 . I don't think anyone would consider them to be garbage .

They also have a much better OL and arguably the best RB in the league right now with a back up that is looking (admittedly going on a small sample) about equivalent to Walker.

The Seahawks are still very early in the process of learning how these coaches want them to play and the scheme that they are in. It’s going to take time, but I’m happy with a 2–0 start and the overall play on the field for the most part especially compared to what we have seen from this team over the last three years.

I came away with some concerns. For example, the way the Jets so easily stopped the Patriots' running game. That made me worry that our run defense may be as bad as last year. (Jonathan Hankins seems to be on his last legs and hasn't been very effective.) But the Patriots were banged up on the offensive line and didn't have their left tackle against the Jets.

As for how easily the Jets moved the ball against the Patriots defense, the Jets played without their middle linebacker, Ja'Whaun Bentley. (Bentley also missed the second half of the Seahawks game.) I think their defense also suffered from the offense not being able to mount any drives.

Also, I would add that that game in Week 2 was their home opener and they had just come off a big upset, beating the Burrow Bengals in Cincy, so they were feeling themselves and we had to match that which we eventually did.

No. Divisional opponent coming off a short week and OT loss. On top of that the Patriots probably are not that good offensively

But if the Patriots aren't that good offensively, aren't you disturbed that they were able to run at will against the Seahawks?

Nah. We are still a work in progress. If it was the same in week 10 or next season i'd be more worried. Just happy with the early season wins vs style points. Was our very first 10am game with this regime. Battled some adversity.

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.

That part. We're so fresh as far as the coaching staff, schemes, culture, etc. that we honestly could be 0-2 with some very close losses and nobody would really fault them, tbh. Instead, they went out there both games with a fire and "never give up"/"let's go 1-0 TODAY" mentality and won. Essentially overachieving. And if "overachievers" is the new culture here under Coach MM, then, dammit, I will take it!

Edit: a word

Maye was a statue out there with zero pocket presence and no legs like brissett so the sacks i totally get , he just stood around while the pocket got smaller and smaller so not a surprise and also they were on a short week against a team with a good qb who they didn't have much tape on in that system
Erin was looking off dbs and corners really well and I thought that was something geno could do a lot better at
Seemed almost as if the defenders were like , oh crap my guys getting the pass , a step late on many of their plays so easy receptions pretty much most of the game
I didn't start watching till maye was already in , did brissett get hurt or did they just wanna see maye after it was out of reach

We demoralized them. The Jets got them on short rest after we massacred their spirits at home.

I'm not ready to put confidence in this team as a true 2024 NFC Championship contender, but last night's predictable slaughter by the Jets doesn't make me less inclined to make that leap.

Brisset also played way above his normal abilities in the first half. If he could play like that all the time, he'd have been a starter for a while.

In the end this is the NFL - any team can beat any other ......................... any given Sunday and all that. Hawks win - moving on.
