Should never pay more than the minimum for a punter, IMO. I'd be fine with a different rookie doing it every year.

I mean, how many of you ever punt in madden?

I hope this is sarcasm. Ryan is very important. And can throw a mean spiral.

I don't think we should underestimate the fact that Ryan is the holder for FGs and Extra Points too. He's always done a solid job at that and that is just one more area the Seahawks will not have to figure out a replacement for. With all the kicking woes in the NFL last season, I'm glad we will have Ryan out there as the holder again just for continuity.
This, too ^^^^

I'm glad. :thirishdrinkers:

Holmgren had a problem with the amount of respect he gave to special teams. Pete doesn't, he make sure ours are competitive, at least. Ryan kicks well either for distance or direction and can hang them up there pretty good, usually.

Nice move.

This is a good deal! We don't need any punter experiments.

NICE... 4 years at 2.5 Mil. APY... Will probably only count for 2 million against the cap this year. Solid deal and I honestly couldn't see someone else punting for us. Besides the great production as a punter, Ryan has a physicality about him that most other punters just don't have.

I just gotta say that its pretty cool when your punter has bigger guns than most team's linebackers.

$2.5 million APY makes Ryan the 12th highest paid punter. Also the 12th most guaranteed money for a punter. That actually sounds kind of low for a new contract.

12th and 12th. I see what they did there.

He was also the 12th rated punter by PFF last season.

The 34-year-old has earned positive grades for five straight seasons in Seattle, and he ended 2015 with the 12th-highest grade among starting punters, despite a low net average (37.6 yards per punt, the fourth-lowest). – Thomas Maney, @PFF_Tom

You can't go by rankings, it depends on situations whether we ask for short and high for coverage or long to put in bad field position or away to avoid a return or maybe a positional pin back kick. You also have to look at are we punting in a position to long for a field goal but at a distance we can kick and possibly get a touchback if he kicks it to the end zone.

Ryan executes the situation as good or better then anyone.

I agree, just being dumb with another random '12' reference.

4 years at 10 million? That's just insane unless we don't get serious about our oline that is. Since Cable is still here I'm convinced this may be the best FA signing of the year, no joke. I'm ready to see what their plan for the draft is given we already signed a second tier OL and DT and wouldn't be surprised if a couple more OL FA's are coming.
