What a crap way to go out. Oh well, you're a legend Pete. Enjoy retirement.
Yeah, hubris is a bitc4. He brought this in himself. The tendency that started here to surround himself with guys he liked vs guys who were qualified did him in. As did his belief that his way was the best way in offense and defense.

Pete was flat out overrated for years and stuff like this proves it. So many in here said if you’re critical of Pete you don’t know ball. Baffling

Pete always wanted to run the ball and play defense, but didn't want to invest in his offensive line. Trading your Pro Bowl center for a TE that doesn't block?

It was so frustrating, he just felt like they needed a better RB but guys off the practice squad can pick up a hundred yards a game if you have the right blocking. I love Walker and Charbonnett but one of those picks should have been a guard.

Pete screwed up by taking Geno. Then gave his son a job...signed Tyler Lockett and played him over developing his rookies and just stuck to his old habits. I wanted him to be successful but when they got Geno I knew it wouldn't last long. Pete made a lot of money and he will be in the hof and ring of honor one day..Hopefully soon.

Seahawks 2.0 under Pete did not go well. He will be in the HOF someday I hope, but the game has officially passed him by…

…I have a family member who’s a die hard Raiders fan, no wonder he’s so miserable all the time 😂. They are now currently on the hook for over 50 million a year on coaches and GMs that are NO LONGER WITH THE TEAM! Let that sink in!

Here is more food for thought. Based on rumor the last couple years Pete was here they gave John more control in the draft. Well isn't it odd as soon as they did that they don't have a single miss in the first two rounds when they were terrible leading up that point in the draft with a ton of misses? The more and more I see things the more I think Pete was wildly overrated and was a hindrance for years before he was let go by Seattle. I know I'm in the minority here.

Im not taking the bait....
Here is all I know. The guys who posted here and elsewhere who swore Geno was top 7, and the Seahawks would crash and burn once Pete was let go are no longer posting. Makes me think they weren't Seahawks fans but fans of Geno/Pete, which people can be a fan of whatever they want to be, it just makes me feel right about a lot of things we got killed for in here. I feel like dancing in that a little but but I'll move on soon promise.

I'm a big Pete Carroll fan, but no matter how you slice it up, the Raiders were an absolute disaster this season, and the head coach was largely responsible for the mess. It's kind of okay to have your son on the staff in some minor capacity. It's not a good look when he's in an important position.

By all accounts, Brennan Carroll is a legitimate football coach, having been offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for Jedd Fisch at Arizona and Washington. But it's different having your son work for you because of the lack of accountability and the optics--you're not sure if Pete made the best hire or it was just nepotism.

He should have left it up to Chip Kelly to hire his choice as O-line coach. If you're going to roll with Chip, roll with Chip. As it turned out, Murphy's Law prevailed and the offensive line turned out to be the biggest problem for the Raiders. It may not have been Brennan Carroll's fault (although it sure looks like it), but at that point, everyone is going to focus on the fact that Pete hired his son.

There are so many nuances to the PC era that it's hard to write the definitive last word on it. When you look at the overall record, it's hard to be overly critical of the reign:

--14 seasons
--10 playoff appearances
--11 winning seasons
--3 losings seasons (and one of them still led to a playoff spot)
--5 divisions titles
--2 Super Bowl appearances
--1 Super Bowl win

Perhaps my biggest gripe was in PC's refusal to take a conscious step or two back in the back half of his tenure in an effort to remake the roster into a true contending team again. You might say I got spoiled by the success of the first half of his tenure. I felt he had too much power and influence over personnel and roster construction, amongst other things, which led to moves that kept us competitive as a team, but not a serious contender, moves like the Jamal Adams trade, and the filling out of our CAP space with the resigning of average players, and more.

To his credit, we posted strong regular season records for a while there, even winning the division title in 2020 with a 12-4 record. I always think of that season as the smoke-and-mirrors season, because I never felt that was a true contending team, and it became apparent when the Rams handily beat us in the Wild Card round. After that season, real mediocrity began to set in. The team started to become stale to me as a fan.

So yeah, I too sensed that JS started to get more control over personnel and roster construction, and we've greatly benefitted from that. I'm not sure how it came about, but it seemed palpable to me.

Just my two cents.

Yep. But why would someone say no to another NFL coaching gig? There's only 32 of those things. He gave it a shot, it didn't work. That team is a joke.
Even with a few decent proven head coaches floating around out there for hire - will any of the good ones take the Raider job?

I cant imagine Stefanski or Harbaugh taking it.

The job just isn't attractive due to the history of it being a complete shit show for decades.

I see no end in sight for the raging herpes sore that is Raider Nation.

Good post and all fair points for sure.
