I cringe every time I see someone that's joined in 2013.....I know I'm not alone.

I don't have a problem with any particular class of "Joined in's" except the 2009ers.

They know why.

The Seahawks have been 'my team' since '87 but it wasn't until I discovered .net and other internet resources at the end of '09 that I really began to follow the Hawks closely. Even then I lurked here for over a year before I signed up. Before 09, I was a much more casual fan, following how they were doing each season but not much more than that. I certainly didn't have any real understanding of the game.

That said, it's been an ambition of mine to visit Seattle and see them play for over 20 years, a bucket list thing I guess. Whether CLink is the first stadium I get to or not, the first game I go to will be a Seahawks game.

I think there are several key events that increased our Nationwide base.
1) our first super bowl appearance.
2) The arrival of Pete caroll, his rah rah style got us a lot of press both bad and good.
3) The success of our defense.
4) the success of our QB play from Russell Wilson last year.
5) the Massive press received by our LOB (This year)
6) the Coaching style of Pete Carroll.
7) the Scouting ability of John Schneider
8) Russell Wilsons (presidential style Demeanor)
9) Lots of wins and in the past 2 seasons. (everyone likes a winner)
10) Marshawn Lynch
:)

haed to believe but not every fan is into internet message boards. and if they are, maybe they just heard about this place. i guess we better not advertise this place to gain more members, or else they will come here and be ridiculed for their join date? jeez.

Its not hard to believe that most fans haven't heard of this place. I work with over a hundred people and all are hawks fans except 1 cowboys fan and one raiders fan. and Zero other then myself know about this place. I showed one person last week about it.

I originally joined this forum under another name in, let me think, 2003 maybe 2004. But then I moved back to Washington and stopped coming here, and forgot about the old user name and all of that, so now I have this one. But I've been a hawk fan since I could remember rooting for football, so 1983 or something like that.

And as a person who was in the military for 9 years, and meeting lots and lots of fans from other teams, and living in hte heart of Packers, Redskins, and Jaguars (lol) fanbases, i can tell you that other teams have much larger traveling fanbases than we do. The Packers and the Redskins contingent is freaking huge, those cheeseheads love their Pack, and the Steelers fans, they are just as bad. I would include the Cowboys fans, but that is only true in years that the Cowboys are winning.

Don't be THAT GUY! I've been a fan since the Hawk inception, Nordstrom days. We should welcome all newcomers to this forum, the wagon is big and it seems it is getting bigger. Let it ride.

Oldtimers huh, sounds like age discrimination, new fans from all age classes are welcome, yes you will have bandwagon fans come in, be it were the popular choice, they like the uniforms, or because were winning, you become an oldtimer when thats not the case and your still supporting the team.

Nobody gets there overnight, so all the new fans are welcome but they won't get that Social Security check for a few years.

So we are getting close to the give "them a history exam to determine their degree of fandom" stage in our team's history? I know that is the measuring stick folks use to rag on Cowboy, Steelers and 9ers fans. Yet we are going to be a different type of fanbase? Doubt that. Once this fanbase wins a couple Lombardis they will be just as entitled as the ones they flip crap to. It is human nature.

I would rather be a newcomer to the bandwagon. At least the years of agony and mental depression would not be part of the deal. I think the only thing the old fan card gets you is a cynical attitude. I used to be useless the week after a loss back in the 80's. Year after year after year ... brutal. Wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy.

Seahawks.Net isn't an exclusive qualifier for fandom. There were Seahawk fans long before the internet.

.....where the hell did I put that box of Inside The Seahawks magazines ?????????

Not that it means anything but I've been a fan since I was 7, which was day one 1976. The reason the hawks are getting so much national attention NOW vs then over some of the other good Hawks teams of the past is that they are the deepest team talent wise in the NFL, the always positive attitude coming from the coaching staff, their bruising style of play, the dominance at home, the personality a of some of the players, how passionate the 12's are, and how the media is different and the internet which didn't exist back then. We live in a 24 hour news cycle now, so the "reality" in which we live is much different from the past. If I wanted to watch Hawks highlights in the past I was at the mercy of the networks, now in the internet age I can go on to YouTube and watch me at my leisure.

Same deal for me except it was right at the time of the scout.com split. The username was the same but I forgot the email and login.
