The defense is at full strength for the Falcons game, but the defense, even with important players out, was never a problem. It's the offense that has been "JSN and some guys." The Vikings shut down JSN, which is why the offense didn't score a TD until garbage time in the fourth quarter, with the Seahawks already up 19-0 against a then-4-7 team with a terrible offense. Earlier in the season, when a bunch of people were trash talking at 49ers fans about how everything the 49ers did depended on McCaffrey, I was thinking that the Seahawks' dependence on JSN was much bigger, but I kept quiet so nobody would accuse me of jinxing things, but the Vikings game seems to have supported that position strongly. Until proven otherwise, the Seahawks offense is JSN and some guys.

As you point out, the Darnovers make the Seahawks defense look less excellent than it has been.

As I've said elsewhere, I'm perfectly fine with the Seahawks keeping Darnold for 2026 on his current contract, because it's at a relatively reasonable price for what he can do. And really, I don't see how the Seahawks could realistically have a better option for 2026 than Darnold on his current contract. Not 2027, because even though his 2027 cap hit would be less than those of top QBs, the difference between Darnold's expected performance and that of a top QB is a lot bigger than the difference between his 2027 cap hit and that of a top QB. 2027 looks more expensive than I think Darnold will be worth, but the contract doesn't guarantee the 2027 compensation, so I'm not worried about it. I see that as a padding year so Darnold's agent could say it was a $100M contract. And by 2027, the market could possibly have changed enough that Darnold on the last year of that contract looks like a good deal, but I currently consider that unlikely. On the other hand, as soon as I saw numbers for Darnold's contract, I considered it extremely unlikely he'd be worth keeping even for 2026, but I should mention that my current view takes that into account and he still doesn't look likely to be worth what his current contract would pay him in 2027.

I think there is a path to a title with a limited QB like Darnold whose cap hit is what Darnold's is for 2025-26 (that part is important!), and I think the Seahawk front office and coaching staff can find it, but the trick is that the window is very short. I just really, really, really hope the Seahawks don't get excited about the team's W-L record this year and give Darnold an extension that gives him cap hits like a top QB.
Darnovers!!!!! That’s great!!!

Woah ! Pump the brakes! They are no where near the LOB stat wise. It’s debatable whether they are even the best defense in the league . And they have just faced the murderers row of cam ward and the 32 ranked offense and max brosmer and the 29 ranked offense 🤣

I get your enthusiasm , but the LOB was one of the best defenses of all time

Different era. Defenses were allowed far more contact with receivers in the LOB era.
That makes it hard to directly compare.

But I’d have to say the defensive front is better on this defense but the LB’s and safeties were better in the LOB era. CB’s is a push since the LOB had Sherman and not much else whereas this defense has more depth.

Amen.

Agree on the FO needing to be patient, though I don't think Sam is going to have a ton of leverage to demand much more given the up/down nature of his performance to date (assuming he continues this way). He is showing some resilience under pressure so far against the Falcons. Let's hope that continues after this week.

This defense is one of the best in franchise history, but, the LOB era, until otherwise proven, is still the best.

The 2013 Seahawks defense might be the best in NFL history. That’s currently debatable among NFL fans/analysts/stats.

This defense has not yet entered that discussion.

The LOB defeated and easily, defeated the greatest offense of all-time.

It’s been proven and in the history books as being such, and that’s not debatable.

I can guarantee I watch more of the Seahawks than you watch of the 49ers. I live in Seahawk country , they are on tv every week
Nice! I usually try to catch 49ers highlights to keep tabs on the enemy. If they're on MNF or TNF or SNF I may watch more of the game. It's been impressive what Shanahan did bringing in Mac Jones and having him play so well as to make us wonder if Purdy starts when back from injury. (Yes, We knew it would be Purdy if healthy) I thought there might be a dropoff on D or O with injuries and attrition from retirements or free agent losses. (but Trent Williams is back and ragdolling D-Linemen as usual.) I'm sure you watch more Seahawks than I watch 49ers, and I'll try to keep it that way.

This week vs the Falcons was a great outing for Sam, not because he lit them up, but because he mad wiser choices overall, and the one pick I'm sure will be a learning experience, both on recognizing a risky situation, and on ball placement, to hit the TE (Arroyo, at least) in the gut instead of up high and hard where tipped ball risk is high. Also Charbonnet had a drop/tip that dropped harmlessly.
Overall it's looking like Darnold is really working on learning the lessons from the 4-pick Rams game. Kurt Warner had a nice breakdown of each interception, and showed what Sam needed to change, mostly mindset, recognizing risky situations and either taking the sack or throwing the ball away.
I don't know if Arroyo has hands issues, but Barner seems to catch everything thrown to him and make it look simple.

LOVED what I saw from Sam in the 2nd half. Exactly what we need. Does he make me nervous? God yes.

This Seahawks defense is nowhere near the LOB and that's not even a reasonable comparison. Given the rule changes between the 80s/90s and 2010s, the LOB is probably the best defense in NFL history
I wouldn't go that far. LOB was a great defense, but that 2000 Ravens defense was a ******* monster. That is the greatest defense in NFL history.

Garbage time score aside. This defense is one that will go down in franchise history. They now have the same number of SB titles as the LOB, one of the most dominant SB performances ever, and did it while posting one of the best DVOA s of all time.
