Oh, I agree it hurts. Its going to hurt our pass protection certainly. I just don't think it will be the difference between winning and losing.

The season goes on. We keep winning. Next man up.

As long as the D keeps playing at the same level (and I think they're only going to get better) I don't see a loss on our schedule with or without big Russ.

And no, i'm not predicting an undefeated season, but I don't see any game where we shouldn't be favored to win.

That is our starting left tackle. Without him Russell is going to be hit more. I don't like that. This isn't just "next man up".

Guess there's always next year... :sarcasm_off:

It's too bad you are writing off this season already.

You think we will need him against JJ Watt? You don't say?

Get used to seeing our 10 million dollar tight end playing tackle again

We will use anyone we have to protect RW, regardless of the players position or salary. You make it sound like the injury to Okung was a simple matter of poor planning. The whining makes you sound like a converted 9er fan.

Where in the world did you come up with that? Stop with the dumb comments please.

well adam schefter just said on NFL LIVE that okung tore a ligament in his toe and is out vs the jags. We don't need okung vs the jags but we def need him down the road.

That sucks. I would think this is worse than a sprained ligament. Maybe he can just chop it off? Just joking.
I laughed. If he's truly "In"...

Doubt they go with Baley. McQ will get the starts.
You know... against JAX, maybe they'll rotate at least. McQ is used to rotating and seems like a good time to get some guys some experience. Probably be wise to try to get the game in hand first, though. Might see more lineman active this week to get any and all game experience.

It actually could be. Sweezy has been poor in pass protection. Carpenter has been terrible in pass protection. McQuistan got dominated against Aldon Smith. After losing Okung, at what point doesn't it become a jail break ? You think we're in good shape with Giacommini being our best pass protector ? How are we going to protect our QB with only 2 guys that are average to above average in pass protection ? You can only roll out so much.

Does this change my season expectations ? Yes and No. I expect us to win the division, and I still think we can. I expect us to make a deep run in the playoffs and I still think we will. Do we make the Superbowl ? I'm not sure. Maybe home field advantage takes care of us. Do we win the Superbowl ? Probably not with the OL. We're also going to have a lot more close games than I originally thought.

Our only saving graces are:

1. we get a run game going with the crew we have. Oddly possible, but maybe only at home

2. Okung comes back at 100% and only misses a few games.

3. one of the guys that looked good in preseason steps up and plays well.

There's a reason why Left Tackle is the second highest paid position in the NFL, and there's a reason why rebuilding franchises invariably take Left Tackles high in the draft. This would be no small loss. Left Tackle is a building-block position, second only to QB.

Can we survive it? Yes. But it will be a task. I imagine we will lean even heavier on the run game and the zone blocking scheme. We'll probably rely a ton on the TE to help on the left side, which means Miller will get even less targets. Getting Percy back suddenly becomes huge. His ability to make plays from the flat or LOS will add a necessary dynamic element to this sort of offense.

Denver has lost their starting LT and starting C for the year. It will be interesting to see if they can weather the storm as well.

Very true, though Peyton's ability to read defenses and make line changes might minimize the effects of those losses. I believe in RW, but there is no other QB in Peyton's league in this regard. I think it hurts us a little more.
