This has so many logical holes in it that, again, it's hard to know where to start.

Schottenheimer was fired because his offense, after completely changing identity, fell apart spectacularly at the end of 2020 and he didn't want to revert to something closer to the significantly more successful 2018/2019 game.

That isn't "challenging Pete," it's "being shittier than you used to be."

It's pretty noticeable that Geno's first reads and progressions do not include check downs. This is a play design. Geno's pocket collapses relatively quick (for all the "he holds the ball") he gets pressured quickly.

We even saw multiple plays where Geno had no options, even if he had all the time in the world that were shorter than 15 yards. And when we do pass short, it's behind the LOS. The Seahawks clearly don't have many plays where the underneath is the primary target. DK-post, with Lockett sitting in the flat for zone, or diving across in man. It should be obvious that this would be like the #1 play call. Check if DK is in man and if the safety bites to the middle, if not, check down to Lockett or a TE sitting in the flat.

I’m not sure that’s true about the picket collapsing, I know he’s had a couple games with a very low pressure rate and still struggled.

I don’t think you’re wrong about play design and it not being a point of emphasis but some of it is still on execution. Geno has to see presnap what is there, be willing to adapt post snap and after ten years just do a better job. I’ve seen him stare down open guys underneath and just not pull the trigger, multiple times. There has been others who’ve broken down tape and seen the same thing. Now don’t get me wrong it’s not all him and I wish they helped him more in this regard too like you said. I think it’s more a function of Pete’s vision for an offense but I could be wrong.

Again long winded on my part but Geno needs to he better and Waldron needs to be better.

Pete Kay not call plays but he does have an impact on the type of offense is ran and he’s talked about it hundreds of times over the years. He likes the explosive play and the running game playing off each other hence a lot of deeper route tree stuff.

Let Russ Cook failed midseason against safeties parked high, and Schottenheimer wouldn't run them out of those looks. Russell continued to beat his head against a wall for the rest of the year, culminating in some embarrassing losses and a playoff ass-ripping.

This reluctance to run was almost certainly, in part, driven by Russell's refusal to be a low volume passer, which is what works best for him. Oh, and SURPRISE! He's only getting back to playing good football now, when he's 23RD IN THE LEAGUE IN ATTEMPTS! SHOCKING! Could have NEVER predicted that one! The Schotty 2018/2019 formula!

Are you sure it wasn't Shotty rebelling against Pete's philosophy because he saw what would be more effective and Pete having none of it?

Tyler lockett has a 12 yard cushion and Geno has no mental programming to just toss him the ball like it’s sandlot, he HAS to come up with the right play instead. That’s my point. We can’t just go for the simplest most high percentage play, it’s always some drop back play action or second level attack.

You don’t need to create space for DK metcalf to have a play on the ball. He’s always open.

Oh also on the play Geno gets hurt Tyler has a 15 yard cushion. So not sure of your narrative.

Geno's definitely missing seeing open receivers and hesitant to let it rip on time.

But that's not the problem, the problem is our offense isn't doing a good enough job of establishing the run or making enough explosive plays downfield to force defenses to get out of their cover two zones.

Which was the question, where are the simple route options. They aren't consistently there.

I'm pretty positive, because he was more effective running the hell out of the ball and letting Russ do the only thing he does well, which is get it downfield.

You know, just like Sean Payton is doing now.

Russ does not work as a high volume passer. Schottenheimer was calling a high-volume attack. It started well, and it started going bad.

I'll never have access to the exact philosophical differences, but Schotty (and Pete/Bevell before him for a few years) wrote the BOOK on how to win with that dude at QB in 2018 and 2019. 2020 got away from that. Despite that, they did win 12, yes. According to you, that doesn't matter because they got shat on in the playoffs, so what? Regular season wins matter to you when it suits your argument?

Shotty's offense is #2 in PPG this season. I never thought he was the problem.

I think Schotty works with anyone when he sticks to the run, and CRUCIALLY, when he's paired with a good run coordinator like Solari. Solari isn't the best OL coach in the league, but his teams universally are pretty good on the ground. Hasn't worked as well in Dallas, but Schotty ain't calling the plays this time around.

I think Geno would work best in a balanced WCO with some vertical elements in it. He needs a rush game like most other QBs.
