I wouldn't be shocked if the 9ers dealt Aldon Smith away. Huge talent, tiny brain, which makes him a nice fit in SF, but who knows what SF knows? Smith's legal troubles are adding up and he may end up missing significant playing time either through jail, when the Goodell hammer comes down, or possibly both.

HawkWow, I love ya man and want nothing more than to buy you a beer, but there is no way in hell the Niners let Smith go.

Who else is predicting that the 49ers will go after Bennett this off season just to piss off the Seahawks? I can totally see this happening to up Bennett's price tag.
Not me. Bennett is a total non-scheme fit for the 3-4 that the 49ers run.

Hey and back atcha...I admit I don't know the prosecutor's strategy and I think you might be suggesting there will be little or no recourse from that office (considering he's a 9er) though you and I would be in the joint for similar.

In an odd sort of way, I hope Smith gets it together. I think he's just an idiot and probably doesn't understand he's not above law. But apparently, he does have the ability to reason. I say this because after landing on RW with a little extra bounce in the NFCCG,....Wilson gets up and says to Smith "that was unnecessary" and Smith sorta' sheepishly walks away like a scolded 8 year old. Laughed my ass off.

I agree the dude is a Neandrathal, but Harbaugh would sell his soul to keep him. He saw Pete and his brother hoist the Lombardi, the two people he hates most in the world.

He may get suspended but Harbaugh doesn't think it's as bad as Browner smoking a doobie.

Hopefully, his agent declines all offers from the Niners in the near future to test the market. Because he will make shitpiles of money somewhere else.

Let them sign Bennett.

SF already have a good pass rush, so if they want to blow 7 or 8 million in cap room for a skill set they already have that's fine by us. If it was talent they wanted to aquire they could have had him last year when he was having trouble finding work.

I have a suspicion it's our defensive scheme that makes Bennett and other players look good, and people will be surprised at how we can swap players in and out without skipping a beat (Browner / Thurmond / Maxwell or Wright / Irvin / Smith for example...).

Do we sign Jared Allen to make up for losing Bennett then? Sounds OK to me. Next man up.

This. Bennett is too light in the pants to play DE in a 3-4 scheme, and he's too slow to play OLB (SF doesn't have a roster spot there anyways). I also agree with one of the above posters that Bennett won't play for a guy like Harbaugh.

Neither will Baldwin. Angry Doug doesn't strike me at the kind of guy who's going to try to break the bank. He's probably appreciative of his opportunity here and if we give him a fair contract, he'll take it.

When you compare the environment and atmosphere that Harbaugh and Carroll have created, Harbaugh will come up short every time.

LMAO. I wonder if John is still apologizing for winning that game? Wasn't the gift of Boldin apology enough?

Thanks for the levity bro. I didn't even put the two winning coaches together. That had to be traumatizing for our Anthony Perkins look-alike. I wonder how many survived Jim's attack on his own prized collection of Jack in the boxes?

I called it. The hate is extremely strong between these two.

Did you call that a member of the media would speculate that the 49ers might be interested in Bennett?

I think they're more inclined to go for one of our receivers or DBs tbh. They've got quite a bit of money tied up in their front seven already, don't they?
Actually, I do see that happening too. Since Baldwin is a restricted free agent, I can see the 49ers offering a contract to him so Seattle has to match it.
He doesn't have to accept, and if he does I will be thrilled to get a 2nd round pick for him.

Why would we only tender a 2nd round pick? 1st round tender is around 3 million, which is still less than we'd pay under a long term contract. If we ended up with the 29th overall pick for him I wouldn't be too upset.

Because no one will give a 2nd rounder for Doug and his 2nd round tender is 2.1m and the 1st round tender is 3.3m, why pay more when you don't have to?

I see the 9ers going after Steelers WR Emanuel Sanders hard in free agency. they would have a tough one two punch with Sanders and Crabtree.

No, just no. They already have Crabtree, Boldin and Davis. That's a pretty good receiving corp.

Regarding Bennett, they already have a lot tied up into the DL. Also he doesn't fit their scheme at all. They may try to drive up the price but JS/PC have a number and they won't go over it regardless so I'm not worried.

My guess is that someone like the Raiders overpay for MB and he's gone though.

If they sign him, then they essentially blow $10M in cap on a player who can't play in their scheme and would help Seattle get a 3rd round comp pick next year. They have potential issues everywhere EXCEPT D-Line and OLB. They can't possibly be that stupid.

With what money? They are up against the cap, Kaepernick, Crabtree and Aldon are due extensions. Boldin and Whitner are free agents. They have a tough decision with Gore. That team needs to get younger and cheaper, not older.

1) 10 mil in space right now.
2) Kap, Aldon, and Crab probably won't be extended this year. My guess is Kap will play out the rookie deal and get franchised. Aldon was a 1st rounder so he can play this year and then 49ers have an option year on him. IE, those guys are going nowhere for the next 2 years. Crab is a different story, but the cap is set to increase by about 30 million over the next 3 year.
3) Boldin was already resigned. Whitner likely gone but we'll see.
4) No tough decision on Gore. He'll be on the roster and he'll be in the final year of his contract. Lattimore and Hunter will likely get playing time this year.
5) Actually agree on last point, but they are already doing so by not resigning Goodwin and letting Kilgore take over and by giving Lattimore and Carradine shots this year.

Overall tho, you are correct. They won't chase Bennett. Too much money for a player they can't use (would be playing him out of position).

Nope. Too much $$$$.

They'll be drafting a WR.

um, no.

He's not going anywhere. While he's had trouoble with the law, he is VERY popular in the locker room (was voted by the players as teram MVP in 2012).

BTW, he likely won't be suspended because he missed 5 games in rehab. WHen asked about the subject Goodell said that they would "absolutely" take rehab into account and that the goal of the suspensions isn't just to punish, but to correct the behavior.

Very likely he doesn't get suspended at all.

We'll see, the '9ers cap is a tighter fit than ours and they will need to pay keep some big coin very soon making a fit for Bennett unlikely.

I'd be more worried about the Raiders and the Jaguars.

Likely true, but they aren't as tight as you think.

Carlos Rogers likely will be released and that'll save at least 4 million. That leaves them with 14 left and the ext for Kap likely won't get budgeted till next year.

The biggest reason I don't think they go after Bennett is that they'd be playing him out of position. He's not a 3-4 DE.

I hear lot of Oakland and Jacksonville rumblings. No way he ends up in SF. It makes no sense at all.
