We seem to always give up big games to guys we have not heard of or seen before. Today is once again an example of that, not taking anything away from Mullins game, he played well under the circumstances but we once again make these guys look like All Pro's.

Mullens didn't look like an all-pro on that pick six. As the play was unfolding I yelled at the TV "throw it" because I could see Wagner baiting him to throw it & knew he was going to pick it off. The TD runback was just icing on the cake.

But he had 454 yards, he has to be in the same conversation as Rodgers and Bree's, after all nobody runs the ball anymore and wins anything according to the many experts here with all their Stats and web searches.

Hawks didn't defend the screen very well. He pickup a lot of "passing" yards on those plays.

I am unsure if this is unique to the Hawks or not. With a new QB there is less film so less tendencies to observe and play calling wlil/should be different for different quarterback. It does seem like we do get taken historically with new or backup QB's.

I know this is dreaming in technicolor but could you imagine this team if ET came back for a playoff run healthy & with the right attitude. Too bad he burned down all the bridges on his way off the field in Phoenix.

It happens a lot to other teams. This is typically evidenced by some new dude getting one or more "surprising" games followed by bad games. It's not just film, either, these guys are often just chucking the ball around in a way that eventually costs them (such as a 98 yard pick six for a TD).

If my memory is reasonably correct, most of the damage from Mullens today was underneath and on screens (it felt like they got 1,000 yards on screens). The big exception to that was the play action throw that got them the 75 yard TD; Flowers was playing really far off and Thompson looked like he was out of position trying to cover another route.

Seattle's offensive play calling and quick scoring and too many punts led to the 9ers getting multiple opps. The red zone defense is solid. A lot of yards but not a lot of points. Seattle fewer passing yards but lots of points.

Dude threw the ball 48 times. Think about that on top of the D playing safe with the lead. They gave up a couple big plays but overall not their worst effort.

Yeah they were basically playing a lite prevent defense all second half and SF finished the game averaging just over 2 plays per minute of TOP. Bend, don't break...but also don't give up stupid long plays like that one to Pettis. Defense was stout otherwise. Kind of like the Carolina game all over again.

Many yards in garbage time, and one really long TD. They did move the ball pretty well between the 20's, but that's what this D is, bend don't break. It's annoying at times, but I doubt it's going to change much.

Often times when QB's put up big yardage totals it's because the game is either a shoot out or a blow out. This game was not a shoot out.

When a guy like Mullens throws 48 passes in a game it's probably a pretty bad sign for his team. That usually only happens when a team gets behind by a lot.

414 yards is a lot, but so is 48 pass attempts. On the other had, 16 points is not a lot.

I'll take Wilson's 185 yards and 4 TD's (and 43 points) over Mullen's 414 yards 2 TD's and 1 pick six (and 16 points).

The only thing in the passing game that really pissed me off was the 75 yarder to Pettis, it was too easy for them. The rest was a lot of underneath stuff, teams working on Flowers (who is clearly committed to not getting beat deep) and then some stuff in the screen game.

Also despite our superior rushing numbers they still beat us in TOP because we kept scoring so quickly.

Speaking of no name QB's, I'd like to see Brett Hundley relieve RW3 when the game is in hand coming down the stretch.
Hundley has enough experience to manage a 3 score lead & has the wheels to move to chains with his feet, it also wouldn't hurt to give Carson a rest during these late downs & let Penny & Davis grind things down. I realize our defense is prone to giving up big chunks of yardage quick, but Hundley is capable and we don't need Russ injured protecting a big lead. I think we are now headed for a potentially deep playoff run, we are no longer playing to secure a wildcard spot.
These last 4 games we need to manage our players & the game accordingly, this is a young team with heart, they'll have the fire once the playoffs start.

Did you watch the game? Just about the time we thought it was going to be put away they came back, it wasn't till half way thru the 4th that things started to look like we would walk away. The last 8 minutes or so is when we really put the distance in scoring in. Wags return and Browns final TD. This team need to still learn to bury teams and not let off the gas.
