No MVP bonus provision in Cal's contract?

I asked AI, and it said Cal does not have a MVP bonus clause in his contract. Not sure if it's true, but many players have this in their contract and it would be malpractice on the part of the agent if he didn't include it. At the time Cal signed it, the Mariners would have had no problem with such a provision. Many players have an incentive clause that gives them a bonus for being in the top 10 in MVP voting.

Nobody is denying that Judge was the best HITTER in the AL, he was ridiculous. But doing that at RF and DH? WAY different than at Catcher.
Cal plays in NY, he wins the vote 20-10, easily.

This is not about big markets. The votes come from one beat writer from each of the MLB teams. There is enough Yankee animus to make being a Yankee a minus in MVP voting.

This vote is a result of current baseball experts valuing batting over everything else, and specifically looking at certain metrics.

The writers from Houston and Dallas voted 4-0 for Judge. Flip those 4 votes and Cal wins. This has me wondering if the votes from Texas were a bit of a middle finger to Cal and the Mariners.

They absolutely ARE sour grapes. There is NO WAY that all of them think that Cal isn't the MVP. This is exactly what makes the MVP award a joke, imo. It's a popularity contest. And it's clearly 4 dewshes who hate the Mariners, "voting" and making it personal.
Cal is the MOST VALUABLE player to his team, end of story.

If that's true, then they need to re-name it the Best Offensive Player award.

Cal got robbed.

I guess hitting homeruns doesn’t mean shit now. He hit 7 more homeruns. Should have gotten the MVP easily. Lol

Great hitter, That’s it though. He’s Edgar and those lame writers didn’t even wanna put Edgar in the Hall

You don’t think judge being a yankee has anything to do with it?

I’d love to see comparable historical MVP races

Yep and then if you look at who was the most valuable player to each team cal stands out, but that’s probably not the spirit of the award. That word valuable… it’s pretty subjective

I'm not sure how true it is today, but in the George Steinbrenner era, it used to be that if you lived in an American League city, especially small markets like Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Minnesota, etc, you basically hated the Yankees because with their money and big market presence, ie bigger radio and TV contracts, the Yankees could buy championships, so in theory, a bias against any Yankee player amongst beat writers that grew up with their teams could exist. That doesn't mean that I believe in such a bias, only that we have to recognize that a bias could cut both ways.
