I find it very odd that so many people from Seattle won't watch the NBA because of what happened to the Sonics, but will continue to watch the Mariners. I understand not supporting the NBA because you perceive them as a bad business that did us dirty. Yet there are plenty of people who watch the Mariners, who are as bad as the NBA if not worst. Since the Sonics have left the Mariners have had one playoff appearance, in which they did not score a single run at home in their playoff game.
Interesting point, but at the same time most all of Texas loves the Cowboys and their record over the last two decades is on par with the M's. If the NFL would have moved the Boys to Helena, I'd think you would see the same thing... Crappy ownership can be glossed over, dumb, dumb, dumb decisions by the league, not so much.

The Mariners (and MLB) haven't said "F all yall" and rode off with their pimp while giving us the finger without looking back. Though MLB came close when the Pilots left sometime between packing up spring training in Arizona and heading to Milwaukee with no warning at all. Which the other owners admired so much they made that thieving owner (Bud Selig) the damn baseball commissioner eventually.

The NBA commissioner was instrumental in orchestrating the whole scenario that led to the Sonics moving from Seattle to OKC, all the while lying through his teeth to Seattle and to Sonics fans that they were not going to move the team. They were always going to move the team. The entire reason Clay Bennett bought the team was to move them to OKC, and Stern was well aware of that, and helped him do it every step of the way.

The Mariners have a cheap, crappy owner that doesn't care about winning. While that obviously sucks for M's fans, I don't see how that's even remotely comparable to what the NBA very intentionally did to Seattle and to Sonics fans.

I agree there are reasons to boycott the Mariners, but it's a totally different situation than the Sonics getting moved.

If there is someone to hate, it's Howard Schultz. Clay Bennett did what any owner would do, move the team to where he wants to move them to. Stern screwed Seattle, but he also made an example of us. It sucked, there is no doubt about that.

The M's ownership lies to the fans every season. They talk about how they will spend more money, and never do. I think it was after our playoff season a couple years ago they said they were going to spend money, and we were like 19th in payroll. They lie to the fans every year yet Mariner fans show up.

I just think it's weird that there are people that are totally anti NBA, yet support the Mariners. IMO they are both bad businesses. If you are going to boycott one, boycott both, can't have it both ways.

As lousy as the Cowboys have been, you can't even compare them to the Mariners. They are consistnetly relevant and at least make the playoffs. The Sonics left nearly 20 years ago and last I checked the Mariners have the same amount of home playoff wins as the Sonics since then. The Mariners are a bad business but people in Seattle just love to support them.

Sounds like they want the Celtics sold first as that raises the bar on expansion fees. I still think it happens. NBA is missing out on a lot of tech money in this market while every other sports league is making good money off it.

The NBA would be suspect (not that that's not normal these days) if they were to turn a blind eye to Seattle's rabid fan base for Sounders, Seahawks, Kraken, et al. and go elsewhere for expansion.

Even if Seattle gets an expansion team, I’m done with the NBA. After everything that’s happened, I could never spend a nickel supporting the NBA.

I'm willing to give Watching the Sonics a chance. I would always tune into the NBA playoffs just for some background noise and such. When that Last Dance documentary came out and I saw the difference between then and now, I couldn't believe how bad the game is currently lol. I haven't watched any since because I'm just not interested at all lol

Yep, I never buy into the whole "Sonics are coming back" thing. I'll believe if it happens. Until then, it's nothing more than talk.

Haven't watch a single minute of NBA since they were taken away.
100% with everyone on this.
I haven't invested one minute of time to the NBA since the Sonics were taken away.

Are everything else to the equation, I don't think I'll be watching when/if they come back. The league doesn't care about the US market anyway , the real money is China .

I’ll only watch if the Sonics are back and even then, simply for the nostalgia of it and to hopefully glimpse Kemp, Payton, Big Smooth, Detlef and others in the crowd.

like @chris98251 said about florio.... Adam Silver is a bitch too.

Also... if its comes down to Vega, Mexico City and Seattle and theres only 2 expansion teams, Seattles not getting shit and Ill permanently write off the NBA.
Vegas and Mexico City will get them before Seattle. The NBA and all sports leagues at this point are scumbags. They don’t care at all for fans. Starting to believe most athletes hate fans too.

It's these billionaire owners and such that have to suck up every nickel
in profit, that comes before the fans.
I'm shocked a lot of people pay to see the trash product tbh.

Yet Seattle was obviously willing to fund a state of the art arena. Just had to wait a few years because they had just funded a baseball stadium and football stadium.

Supersonics fans are/were the best. Just look at TV ratings, attendance adjusted for win/loss and capacity, etc.

As a former Sonics die hard season ticket holder who now watches maybe a few playoff games a year if that. If they screw us again they'll be more dead to me than Starbucks.
Howard Schultz screwed us and I'll never forgive him for it. He took the easy way out instead of waiting for the right way. The NBA was dead to me on that day and will stay as such until I see Squatch dunking balls at halftime.
