I will now kill myself - this is the worst thing ever. They have more bandwagon fans than anyone. They are the professional version of the Texas Longhorns (wife is a UT grad - I'm just pointing out fact).

Other than perhaps Cleveland, I can't imagine a fan base better than ours. There were many years I wished I could turn my back on this franchise. Never came close. The ONLY knock I could have on our fans (in the past) was a generous portion had no problem with mediocrity.

Well, if being forthright, I am actually envious of that fan. I wish I could be so easily entertained and had the same "oh well, there's always next year" attitude. My mental health would certainly benefit from such a 'tude.

I would think Green Bay would be at #3.

I do think this is based more on tickets and revenue flow which leaves the smaller market teams like us out in the cold.

Our current group of crazed fans are pretty new and until the last couple of years haven't really gone to great lengths since 05.

Based on just numbers, fans and money, I'd say this is probably about right.

They didn't say anything about how rabbid a core group is year in and year out, just about a large following and money spent.

If you look at the off years, Seattle's season ticket waiting list goes from a year or two wait for them to absolutely nothing. The 90's proved this, the few years after 2006 when we sucked proved this.

There is a large, loyal group of hardcore loyal fans who bleed Seahawk blue no matter what, and then there are the fair weather fans who think that it is cool to be a "fan" when they are doing well. These types are easy to spot in the stadium as they consider it to be a social event and spend more time talking, using their phone, and going back and forth to the concession stands.

All in all, this ranking is probably spot on.

All in all, when you consider the said "science" of the post, it may be spot on. But what explains the beat my heart skipped when I saw SEATTLE SEAHAWKS @ 24 ?

Before I started reading this, I thought that there's no way this could be right without an error of some sort.

"Over the last three seasons (the time period used to calculate fan equity)"

And there it is. They used too small of a sample size. What they interpret as a number of Cowboy fans loyally supporting mediocre teams could just as easily be a number Cowboy fans supporting a team they think is good/great but is under performing because of injuries, bad luck, etc. They could also be right and Cowboy fans are in fact the most loyal of fans but they didn't look at enough data to flesh out what exactly is correlating with what nor how those trends may have changed over time.

It's a cool question to try and answer and a great example of how statistics and analysis can be used to answer it better than most people. I just wish they got more than ankle deep into the matter.

Looking at the last decade the top teams other then the Cowboys have been Superbowl winners which historically gather fair weather fans, Cowboys have the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders as the stallworth of the fan base no matter what crap or inmate is on the field. I remember time and time again people would speak of the Cowboys and go right to the Cheerleaders. That and Jerry has used the Landry and Tex Schram era as his marketing platform to this day. He did well with Jimmy but that was his one splash, Tex and Tom did it from the begining and did it the hard way with no fanfare.

I'm not saying the Seahawks should be #1, but Dallas? They've had not one but two dynasty periods. Shouldn't loyal fanbases be the ones who've actually been tested with actual hardship, anguish and doubts? You know, like Browns fans? Or maybe the Jets fans that fork up their hard earned dollars to watch Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez? Now that's loyalty.

I'd say Raiders fans are some of the most loyal...then again, it seems like a lot just cross the bridge back and forth

That's a pretty shallow way of looking at a fan base. Since we built the new stadium, we've sold it out every year, in the first day usually, if not then the first week. What more can you do ? We buy all the tickets already.

That is the hardcore rabbid group I commented about, the ones that I personally admire. This article is talking strictly money, even in the down years. It is cool to be a "Boys" fan not only in Texas, but a large amount of the country. The Seahawks have a die hard core, just like you want to keep on the team player wise, but a fickle group of extras when things are not going well.

There are serious problems with this study and this results in meaningless information.

First and least importantly, it only looks at the most recent three years. Naturally, some teams have been more successful than others in that interval; this gives an advantage to teams on a downturn and penalizes those on an upswing. A longer window would resolve this issue as it would include every team in both successful and unsuccessful periods.

Secondly, revenue is a measure of the breadth of the fan base rather than the depth. The Cowboys do have a lot of casual fans, but most of us do not consider the sheer volume of casual fans to be that interesting. A comparison of stadium experiences by any neutral party would give a heavy advantage to the Seahawks in terms of fans who show up on gameday.

Third and most important, this study only looks at the revenue which is able to be captured by the team. Once a team sells out the stadium that is it as far as the study is concerned, and there is no differentiation between a team that barely sells out or one with a long waiting list for season tickets. A better way of looking at this would have been to compare StubHub ticket prices to list ticket prices and to include that difference. This is the additional revenue generated by fan excitement which the team is unable to capture due to capacity. Consider that the cheapest seat for the Seahawks/49ers game is $238.50 while the cheapest seat for the Cowboys/Redskins matchup is $35.00. This is significantly more meaningful than simply scoring them both as maximum capacity.

If they would have replaced the word loyal with BANDWAGON then it'd be legit! There is a lot of stupid people in the world, and most of them are cowboy fans!

The difference, IMO, is the Packers, Cowboys and Raiders all won Super bowls. Easier for a fan to shake the bad years after having so many great years. Additionally:

The Packers have an insanely rich history and are the ONLY show in town. Owned by the fans, It's in their best interest to remain loyal. Even during ice fishing season.

The Raiders have an awesome history and the luxury of fans in both LA and Oakland. They could lose half their fans and still appear to have a loyal fan base. I'm not convinced face paint should be used as any sort of barometer when determining who has the best fans.

The Cowboys? America's team and Mexico's team as well. An uber rich history much like the Packers and uh...yeah, that brainwashing thing that's practiced in the Lone star state. No respectable Texan would cheer for any team outside the state. It would be viewed as treason, so I don't view a captive audience, as the best audience.

YMMV, but I wouldn't trade our more cerebral fan base for any other. Go Hawks!

New England have some of the most bandwagon fans I've ever seen. Most can't name the starting QB before Tom Brady. Greenbay, Chicago, Cleveland, Saints, and Hawks would be my top 5.

This is basically a measure of which fans ARE the most bandwagon. Any list with the Saints or the Patriots on it pretty much ignores the years before they were good. Can we just have this renamed - most brainwashed fans?

There is no way to tell. I don't care either way, all I know is that our stadium is the loudest in the NFL. I don't hear all these other "great" fan bases making it so the other team can't hear on offense from the start to the end of games. Pointless list, waste of time.
