You also have to take into account the great connection Robinson and Lynch had with each other. Robinsons ability to pick up a certain man and Lynch's ability to read where Robinsons going to block was pretty amazing and will be hard to duplicate

I attribute the success Lynch had last year more to RW and the read option than Mike ROb and the line improving. What was different from 2011 to 2012 and why did Lynch have a career year?

I think it is entirely possible to understand the positional, physical, and financial dynamics of this decision and still be pissed about it. Just because we are connected to MRob as a player for his contributions on and off the field (RRR is relevant to this discussion between FANS of the team) doesn't mean we don't comprehend cap realities, the changing face of the NFL, and the fact that MRob was older and apparently very ill.

I get the reasoning. I trust John and Pete. But I still hate the move.

I know we all love Mike Rob but this thread cracks me up. Who would have thought 3 years ago, we would be freaking out this much over cutting our starting FB. These are good problems to have folks. This team has so much depth and talent, and as I see it right now, the only position somewhat "questionable" is fullback, and IMO, Coleman looked great the last 2 weeks.

Hawkblogger FTW.

Don't worry, he's already on Twitter telling everyone this was "predictable" if they'd read his article and that it shouldn't be a surprise.

Well Hawkblogger (and his agenda) proved to be correct.

Robinson was one of the most expensive fullbacks and $1 mill if freed up in Cap Space.

I can't help feeling like this is a huge mistake...

why, he was only on the field for 1/3 of the snaps last year. That's not that significant. Furthermore We've used TE's the last few years in a H-back role, Miller, Willson have played in this position this preseason and last year ( for miller). The special teams aspect I think is overblown, I think there are plenty of guys who can be solid on special teams, for this reason I'm hopeful that Farwell get's cut too. He offers nothing in terms of defense.

MikeRob played all 16 games last year. In 2011, he didn't. And in those games he didn't play, Lynch put up paltry numbers.

We didn't start running read option until the second half or so of last year, after Lynch had already been posting 100+ yard games. Read option helped, but is not why Lynch had a career year.

If the other FBs can replicate MikeRob's physicality, putting punishing blocks on the likes of Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman, then great! I just don't see that happening Week 2 of this season.

If this is really a scheme change for more exotic looks and formations, then cool, let's see what happens.

Right now, this team is a run first, set up play action type of offense. And MikeRob was an important piece of that.

I wish this thread would be more about Michael Robinson and not at all about some other blogger. Who cares. Don't other blogs and sites have places to comment? Everyone makes predictions and are either right or wrong. It doesn't make you smarter than anyone else. Anyone who looked at Robinson's salary knew this was a possibility.

I'm not sure why people keep latching on to the number of snaps Robinson had like it's the end of the story. He was immensely important to the run game, he was a threat catching passes out of the backfield, and he was a special teams stalwart.

I think Coleman fills the pass catching role (and will be even better), but the lead blocking, chemistry with Lynch and special teams functions are going to be hard to replace.

The decision is sound, financially; but it comes with an element of risk, to be sure.

I think if it weren't for the Real Rob Report, this would be a 3 or 4 page thread. It's a bummer to lose a guy everyone loves, but he is not essential and was going to earn more than what's acceptable for someone in his role. Maybe he will come back when he finds out there isn't a market for him. Don't like to see him go, but I think a lot of people are upset because he was so visible off the field, not because he had a huge impact on it.

Maybe his illness was a bigger issue than they originally thought?
I agree. I think there is much more to the story than we know. Dare I say he may have contracted something that has not allowed him to be around the VMAC or anyone for the past few weeks. Something infectious perhaps. I hope he will be ok. I really liked Rob but I fear his illness was one of the reasons for him being cut.

Wasn't Robinson the Hawks Union rep?

So should we blame the longshoremen?
Most definitely.
I think it matters. In his interviews he often got opinions on contract issues. Looking too deep into the RRR would be silly, but I don't think it's nothing either. NFL front offices have been notorious for cutting union reps, in fact after the new CBA was ratified just about all of them got axed.

I don't think it's everything, but it might be something.

Looking at David Hsu's tweeter timeline, he had a few tweets about Cable's opinion of MRob and RRR. Wasn't very flattering though I am not sure how David would know this? But just like the supposed fracture between Alex Gibbs and Jeremy Bates (OC?) if there was an issue, somehow it gets out. Or folks attempt to connect the dots.

Don't like it, but my trust in PCJS is thick.

Who knows what went on behind the scenes? I can't really imagine M-Rob declining a pay cut. He has to be smarter than that to know that the market for 30-year-old fullbacks can't be that demanding.

I think roster spots are so precious at this point and the Front Office decided that a roster without M-Rob was better for the team moving forward. If I remember what I read correctly, he was only a part of 31 percent of the offensive snaps last year - hard justifying $2+ mil and a roster spot for that.

Still not a big fan of the move, but like I said - the trust I have for the body of work that PCJS has achieved here has earned my blind trust.

I wish M-Rob the best and would love to see him brought back if the situation is right.

BUT DAMN I REALLY DON'T LIKE IT.

Introducing myself here, guys... I've been reading this site for years and years. I had a username at one point but never posted. I forgot it, so I'll just come out and admit that now. I've been a Seahawks fan since around 1990, when I was a snot nosed little one. Wore Seahawks gear when it was not cool to do so. At 32, I've been through the lean years. Been through some good years, too. I lost my dad in March unexpectedly and the last football game I watched with him was on January 13, 2013. We all remember that day and that was one of the toughest pills to swallow as a fan - almost worse than XL.

Currently living in Pasco with my wife and three young sons (3, 1, and our youngest is due on New Year's Day). My brother has season tickets and takes me to at least one game a year...

Anyway, glad to finally post here and look forward to being a part of this great community.

That sucks. I like Mike Rob. Gonna miss RRR :/

Who knows maybe Doug will expand his show to take over Mike Rob's place? One could hope.

exactly right. A good portion of Lynch's success came from the read option (see the few games he averaged 10 yards a carry) and this that is when M-Rob wasn't on the field during those plays. We've also seen Miller (last year) and Willson playing a moving H-back role so I think this is less of a blow than one would think.

mrob wasnt a particularly big fb whe we first got him, 220lbs iirc, and he worked really hard to pack on exta weight. he was listed around 240 last year and that extra beef was pat of what made himsuch an effective blocker. if this illness caused him to lose a bunch of that added weight, the odds of him performing well wouldn't be particularly high. so if he wasnt going to perform to the same level AND was going to cost $2.5m, the prudent thing was to let him go. sucks, but thats reality...

im just superbummed that we're not going to hav our embedded reporter his season, because this season is going to be special.

But acknowledge that the RRR is a valid reason for FANS to be connected to a player and angered/saddened by his release.

Coaches have to make decisions in a vacuum. Fans don't have to respond in that way.
