My assessment of Barrett, is if you like Rhattigan’s transformation under Mac and how he looks like a legit LBer thus far going into his 4th season. Barrett is probably a step or three ahead of that with being much more adept in coverage. Barrett if you will is like MacDonalds’s Malcolm Smith. He’s not much younger than Rhattigan yeah but 4 years of dirt cheap control imo makes trading a guy like Jackson worth it.

Seahawks save a little money on the trade with Jackson, and they are gonna save even more with probably cutting Rhattigan, too.

Hawkblogger seems to think Darryl Taylor will be traded next to the Panthers or Titans.

I wonder if Coby Bryant also will be moved on.
Interesting you say that, because there's a certain 7th round rookie who plays edge on the Titans that played in Michigan as well, and supposedly he's having an "Elite pre-season"

I disagree. Michael Barrett is about as good as they'd get from a seventh rounder, and Mike Jackson would've gotten them a future seventh if anything. I'll take the scheme fit LB now over a future seventh.
And MacDonald knows exactly what he's getting, how he will fit in, his makeup etc. I think if he went out and got him he should play fairly well for us. I know Griffin was pretty high on him as well pre-draft as a perfect fit for Seattle.

I saw online Barrett compared to KJ Wright stylistically.
I can kind of see it. It's not a 1 for 1, but there's some merit.

Barrett is a little bit more "spark plug" style, but he's exactly like KJ in terms of being able to play both at the LOS and drop back well

Michigan fans love the dude, and to borrow a quote from A Knights Tale...

I really had the vibe that he was on the way out. 6th round pick? Disappointing from the standpoint of where we drafted him, but better than a 7th or nothing at all.

Watching his highlights reminded me of when the LOB used to converge on the ball. Not so much standing around watching then run past.

You thinking Taylor?

Jackson was a 5th round pick by the Cowboys. Played on thier PS as rookie. Traded to NE only to end up on thier PS, then the Seahawks PS, then signed on a futures, and made the 53 for us last two seasons.

Barrett played 6 years for the Wolverines. He was redshirted his first year. After that he had a very good productive college career. Was a team captain for the the Wolverines last year when they won the National title. He was selected by the Panthers in the 7th round at pick 240. Biggest knock on him is his size. 6’ 239 lbs. Michael logged in over 200 snaps on special teams Unser Jay Harbaugh who is now our special teams coach
Size and measurables. He was average or below on all or near all events at the combine. But they do say he has a decent football IQ. Likely a death move and not someone that will ever play a key role.

I thnk this is an excellent trade. Jackson was probably a cut candidate with outrageous amount DB depth on the Hawks. LB is super thin and this guy has experience with Mc D

What a bitch.

No one in Seattle was laughing at him. H was just the odd man out and went to a team he could start at. Feel like he could have been flagged a few times as well, especially taking out shaheed
