Mathis aside, I expect the whole line to have an easier time this week. We will be alright.

Considering they haven't looked particularly good in any game this season, even before all the injuries, I'd say my expectations continue to be very low. Not having Unger means it will be even worse. Russ is gonna be running for his life on nearly every pass play I think.

I thought Jeanpierre did alright last week actually considering what he was up against. Folks tend to forget that these are all Professional Football Players. Just that some are more Professional than others.

Get well soon Max!

so instead of being sacked or hit 50% of the time, say 30%? Better hope our running gmae plays lights out.

It's not Unger's physical talents that I miss as much as his communication on the line. Calling out coverage based on defensive alignment, etc.

It's strange, media commentators were stating at the start of the year how our offensive line was one of the best in the league, with two pro-bowlers in Unger and Okung. I never thought the line as a whole was that high and mighty, even though those two guys involved.

Now? I hope the line works together better in Indy, and Russ comes out injury-free.

The line will play much better this week for several reasons:

1. Not playing JJ Watt + Brian Cushing + Arian Foster + Andre Johson + DeAndre Hopkins (who will be a top 10-20 WR by the end of the year).
2. Michael Bowie is much more athletic than Breno, has quite a bit of college experience and has one game/week under his belt.
3. Lemuel is more athletic than Unger and also will be playing his 2nd game in a row with the same line (something we have not always experienced the past 2 years).
4. Our defense will play better early this week so there won't be a big lead by Indy which would allow their defense to "T" off on Russell.
5. Even though the stats show Indy's defense to be very good vs the run, I believe Marshawn will get 100+ yards which always makes it easier for the line to pass block on play action.
6. Tom Cable is one of the best OL coaches in the NFL and a great teacher. He will show the linemen their mistakes and teach them how to avoid them. He will also boost their confidence in their own game.

I expect a win in this game, 27 - 21 with one TD coming from Golden Tate along with him, and the rest of our special teams providing great field position.

no he's not. Not everyone has DL like Houston, or even Carolina, or even SF. Those are very good DL's.

We should have better protection and better running production this week.

everyone making this sound like no big deal sounds just like people who said it wouldn't be a big deal last week.

It is a big deal.

Now, hopefully this week we do the opposite of what we did last week and actually planned on not having a pocket or bothering pretending 'next man up' applies when you're missing most of your starting O-line and the guys who are there have +/- one season of actual experience.

Oh and on defense we can help them out by not playing some wierd random zone scheme and just doing what we do with press coverage.

Maybe unlike seemingly every game plan under this regime, we run a few RB screen pass plays to overcome crap pass protection

A win is a win and that was great but several things weren't fine about last week. I will take an ugly win over a flawless loss any day of the week but there were serious O-line problems and some strange choices in scheme.

The backup O-line graded out just about as well against Houston as the starting O-line did against Carolina. It's not fine - there's plenty of room for improvement - but they aren't complete disasters, either, and they'll get better as they gel.

Jeanpierre is a good center. He'll be fine. The folks I'm concerned about are Sweezy, McQuistan, and Carp. All of who are playing subpar at the moment. Need to pick it up as they have not played well all season (IMO).

As long as we keep winning on the road with backups, i could care less how they look or grade out. The backups are doing what they can, not like the starters have been world beaters to this point. The D is playing well enough to keep us in a position to win, good enough for me till we can get healthy.

as far as RW running for his life, what's new.

as far as our running game needs to pick it up, outside of the Carolina game, i think our running game has been just fine, and that includes Turbin...

Go Hawks!!!!
