With his high contract, advanced age, and lower value put on RBs now, we'd be fortunate to get a 5th rounder for him. Is a 5th round pick really worth increasing our chances of NOT winning another SuperBowl this year?

I think the market for Lynch is better than you think. I can think of 4-5 playoff caliber teams that would love a back like Marshawn to push them over the top (NE, Denver, NO, Carolina, SD, etc) and playoff bubble teams that Lynch could help push into the playoffs (Arizona, Atlanta, Detroit, Jets, Miami).

Again, if the rumors are true that the FO isn't going to budge, I don't see Lynch coming back. He's too proud of a player to give in, he's going to ask to be traded if this is still going on come mid August.

So say Lynch wants 9 million a year, where would these teams mentioned above suddenly find 9 million in cap space to give a running back? With Lynch wanting a bigger contract, I doubt we could even trade him at all much less get some high trade value for him.

Ugh... cracks in the armor so early.

Funny this crap started happening to the Whiners, too. Joined at the hip?
It's just normal stuff that happens to every team. Seriously would you extend a 28 year old running back with 2 years left on his contract? Of course not, especially when you have his replacement already on the roster just waiting for a chance.

Do you think Pete would refuse to alter the offense a bit to make it at least 50/50 pass to run or more if that would be needed for success if Lynch decides to sit and Micheal is a complete bomb?

Lots of these teams have the cap space. Remember on new deals most contracts are backloaded, so the cap space really isn't the issue here (except maybe for Denver).

The biggest issue IMO with trying to trade Lynch is his personality. He's been great here because Pete and John have bent over backwards to "let Marshawn be Marshawn." How many other teams would be willing to put up with Lynch's no media, practice when I feel like it, blast my music as loud as I want in the locker room and other general Lynch-like behavior?

I agree. And Lynch on the Cards would be downright scary. So you can probably cross that option off the list. Throw the Falcons in there too. The Steven Jackson acquisition was a failure last year, but Lynch is younger and more durable and could bring that tough element to the O that they desperately need.

But I don't think he's traded.

^^^^^ I agree with The Sarge.

Remember, Lynch wasn't even a starter at Buffalo when we picked him up. We helped him resurrect his career.

The thing is, and this is coming from the perspective of someone who is extremely self confident - he probably has always believed he had the chops to be one of the best RBs in the league. If you have that kind of belief it probably feels more like you made the best of the opportunity given rather than you only made good because of the benevolence of a front office.

I don't either. Seattle loves Marshawn, and Marshawn loves Seattle. Rarely does a player leave when this is the case.

My guess is we'll throw another 1M guaranteed or something at Marshawn for 2014 and/or 2015, but no extension. If that's good enough he'll be in camp next week. If not? Errr, then it's goodbye Beastmode.

Casserly, everyone's favorite NFL Network Expert "I wouldn't re-do his contract"

I don't know what it is about Casserly, but I just hate it when they go to him as an "expert" on just about everything. He's very annoying for some reason

He isnt asking for an extension. Schneider has said "no more money."

I hope you're right about his value. If Marshawn is going to be stubborn and sit all of training camp out and parts of the regular season, the Hawks might as well explore trade opportunities. The thing is, the new team he's traded to will also have to agree to increase the value of Marshawn's contract or give him a new contract, so that further reduces his trade value.

:Dunno: This is one of those, I just don't get it things. :Dunno:

Halfway through a nice 4 year contract, and now he wants more?

Top 5 paid RB in NFL:

1 Adrian Peterson $11,750,000
2 LeSean McCoy $7,650,000
3 Matt Forte $5,950,000
4 Arian Foster $5,750,000
5 Marshawn Lynch $5,000,000

He has the great house: http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-m ... 12-10?op=1
and drives a Lamborghini with velvet ropes! :D

The dude has and will make huge money! I just don't get it. :34853_doh:

But hey, do your thing Beast, try to get what you can when you can, I don't hate the guy, I never will blame anyone for trying to get the $$ when you can. There is no anger here.

But whatever. Good luck.

I could list multiple reasons why Lynch should get more money, and why he should honer he's contract. But at the end of the day it comes down to I don't give a $hit about reasoning, I want that action boss. Dammit the man brings it on every run.

I don't buy the precedent argument the players are going to do what's in there interest's to do period same with the FO. If they think it's important to keep Lynch a restructure will happen if not they won't. Hold outs are a fairly common thing in the NFL weather or not Lynch gets a restructure won't matter one damn bit to the next player that wants more money. The bottom line, if it's fair for the FO to cut a player with money left on the contract guaranteed or not it's fair for the player to ask for more money or a restructure. This is business don't take it personally. One more thing if Lynch walks our chances of repeating and becoming a dynasty will be seriously diminished. .

No one from Lynch's camp has said anything, so how do you know what he's asking for? The only definitive thing we've heard is M-Rob's statements on the NFL Network yesterday saying that Lynch is going to hold out cause he wants more money for his foundation. Which is laughable to me.

Speculation is rampant, but one thing we do know, Marshawn isn't at camp so whatever conversations JS and Lynch have had since OTA's didn't go well.

So my guess is either we told Lynch no extension, no money, no nothing..........or we offered a slight bump this year and/or next. Either way Marshawn obviously didn't like what he heard.

Is it bad that I would actually be fine with Marshawn holding out the first two regular season games so that Christine Michael is an every-down back for those games and we can see what he brings?

(I feel like a traitor even saying that, because I love Marshawn and want him to remain a Seahawk for years to come yet, but I'm also very anxious to see what Michael can do.)

And I want to see what Spencer Ware can do to, but I seriously doubt it goes that far.

Isn't there a nice stat about players who hold out? Where they usually have a lackluster year...

Yeah Chris Clemons was terrible here.

And Walter Jones was terrible as well.

Yea, but it's about RB's that hold out. And it's a true stat, just couldn't find it. Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, etc. etc.

I honestly think this is a lose/lose. I can see it causing hard feelings and having issues. The Hawks have publicy said that they won't pay him more money.

Lynch told Robinson that he wanted his money from next year front loaded to this year because he thinks they'll cut him next year with his huge cap hit. It makes sense on his end as we still have some cap room (which they obviously want to roll over) and he probably figures if he can get his money now, he'll get more of his money next year, and also stay with the team.

I wanted Lynch to stay here the duration of his contract, even if it means the younger guys sit out longer. Ride that horse until it's tired, as there really isn't a replacement for Lynch, just substitutions.
