With all the activities of the AL West counterparts, is it possible the Ms have already done enough to win the division? Would this cause them to wait on an outfielder until next years far better FA class?

Don't think so, as an Angels fan still very confident of winning the division again next year

With all the recent hot stove rumors about the 2nd and 3rd tier players the M's are rumored to be interested in, it's pretty apparent that Jack is content with not going after a big bat, and going with more of a platoon in RF.

I guess I can see both sides, we don't want to give up top prospects for a one year player, but that hole in RF right now is GAPING.

but easily fillable with next year's free agent class.

The team is already much better than it was last year, and I think there is still 1-2 more guys coming in. Miller/Taylor will be the tradeable pieces.

According to Bob Dutton, The Braves have lowered their asking price for Upton. No longer demanding Walker as part of a deal.

For the right players, this would be fantastic.

Closing in on a trade for a hitter, but nothing is imminent according to Tacoma News Tribune. Some sources out there say it's NOT Viciedo. I sure hope that's true.

Supposedly we are part of a 3 team trade where we would send Walker to San Diego in return for Wil Myers from Tampa Bay.

Look out landing on twitter, but now it seems the 3rd team is actually the Reds, not the M's.

I think they jumped the gun we were never the third team though Will Myers would be one of the few players I wouldn't be be mad about getting for Walker. I keep hearing we're on Marlon Byrd or Ian Desmond anyway.

I'm thinking it's probably Myers to SD, and then SD trades Seth Smith to the M's.
Grab a RH counterpart and you're set for 2015.

#Cubs have acquired right-handed pitching prospect Matt Brazis from Mariners in exchange for outfielder Justin Ruggiano

who?
(and)
who?

so this looks like a good trade (now that I know who the two players are).

Doesnt necessarily fill the "big bat" need, but does provide a platoon option at all positions of the outfield with decent defense. Doesnt keep them from still bringing in another "bigger" bat for the outfield, and didnt seem to give up a lot to get.

Ruggiano is a 4th OF, platoon RH bat.

He's a good depth piece, but if the M's decide to platoon him and James Jones in RF and call it an offseason, this is going to be very underwhelming.

Paired with a good LH bat, getting Ruggiano could be a good move. Just not very exciting.

i think its a better move than you're giving it credit for. but yes, hopefully it does not stand alone.

The Ms didnt need exciting in every move they make. this one is solid (by all accounts, as I didnt know who the guy was, admittedly)

This is an excellent depth move to solidify the roster, similar to moves Pete and John are lauded for making.

Ruggiano is a good platoon bat and a reasonable defender in corner outfield. In a pinch he can man center, though he is not particularly good there (then, neither was Saunders). He doesn't have significant upside, but is cheap, here fore two years, and fills a desperately-needed 4th outfielder role.

We still don't have a 3rd outfielder, so obviously the roster is still incomplete in that regard, but the Mariners needed a backup outfielder, and they gave up a relief pitching prospect for it, who hasn't yet even advanced past AA. Relievers being as volatile and overvalued as they are, they essentially gave up nothing and added a valuable piece to their big league roster.

In essence, Mariners parted with nothing, gained something. Ruggiano shouldn't be an everyday outfielder, but if he were platooned with an Aoki?
