Had high hopes for Mallex but Im starting to think he's absolute trash.
Meh, that's a bit harsh. Luckily we have a couple of OF in the minors now, so I'm willing to live with it for now.

That was a bonehead play, TBS, but like they say fertilizer occurs. :229031_shrug:

Actually think Swanson has some promise. And they finally sent Alanis down, thank dog.

Mallex has dropped quite a few balls. With his speed he should be a great fielder, but you just dont see him robbing base hits like you do other speedy outfielders, instead he just almost makes a great play then drops it. And he cant hit. Cant steal bases if you cant get on base. Useless.

Prized pitching prospect Justus Sheffield will be relieving Kikuchi this evening after he completes 1-2 innings. This is part of the Kikuchi pitching plan.

That was a real gem from Gonzales, 7 scoreless, 9 Ks, no BBs.

Nice to see the guys hitting at home finally. Kinda felt sorry for Hearn there. He walked into a buzz saw.

Will be interesting to see how tonight works out. Sheff has worked out of the bullpen before, and they have always planned to limit Kikuchi's innings because the Japanese season is much shorter than MLB and they tend to get 5 days rest instead of 4. Sounds like he won't go 2 unless he throws a 3 pitch first. ;)

Apparently Servais was pretty emphatic when he said Sheff "won't throw 100 pitches." :)

For the series, we've already stressed their bullpen. They put a backup catcher on the mound last night at the end.

What's up with Kikuchi?....it's been one month into the season and he needs rest already. He hasn't been all that great so far either. Not living up to all that buzz prior to the season.

This was part of his plan from the beginning. They want to ease him in as many Japanese pitchers have been overworked early on in their careers.

It was part of the selling point they made yo him and why he chose Seattle.

Hes been fine early on

He isn't. He's teasing the Mendoza line these days.

Getting fugly out there. I've seen better fielding at a little league game.

Wow, Beckham already has 11 errors on the season. That's unimaginably awful. I never thought I'd ever see a worse Shortstop in a Mariners uniform than Ketel Marte for the rest of my life, but Beckham has accomplished that feat in only 3 years.

Not sure about the stats, but that sounds like a season's worth for an average SS. He's on a pace for close to 70. :34853_doh:

Smith can’t hit and field. Bishop up would be the common sense solution but if they do so they have to eat Smith’s salary (just under 600k). M’s ownership/management doesn’t like to do that this early is the season.

Move was made this afternoon.

Smith is still a player in AAA, unless he chooses not to travel. "As far as mechanics of the roster, if Mallex stays in Tacoma for 19 days or less, he won’t burn an option year, but that, while useful to note, is not terribly important to a player of this type." (LL)

Bishop may not be a better hitter but is an elite fielder
