We need bats a lot more. I honestly don't understand this move. Other than he is a good pitcher with 1.5 years left on his contract.

Have to pay if you want to play with the big boys. Agreed that it hurts to lose Marte, but we're pretty set at SS for the next few years anyway. JP is pretty good. Would have preferred to ship Kelenic, frankly. Maybe we can move him for a more reliable bat this weekend. Still a few days left for that.

This is a huge move, though. A front line starter helps us with protecting Kirby and even Gilbert. He'll probably get a start next week.

So far this year a better pitcher and 2 of our top rotation and an all star.. and a multi game winner while playing for the friggen Reds (equiv of the browns)

Not a fan of the move either. Even if we make the playoffs this year were not going far. I know we're always a year away but hate giving up a stud for a rental.

I like the move. Did we overpay? Sure. But that’s what you have to do at the trade deadline. How many times have we been buyers in the last 20 years? Almost never. At least we are finally trying to win and make the playoffs. You can only stack prospects for so long. And if we suck next year, we can likely trade Castillo for prospects.

Losing Marte sucks, but ask the Yankees, Dodgers etc how many times they’ve had to trade away great prospects to make a run for the playoffs.

If we make the playoffs we will have a great rotation in Ray, Gilbert and Castillo. We may only need to score 3 or 4 runs to win.

I still think they add a bat, just not sure what they have left to give up. Don’t see them moving Hancock. Maybe Ford? Getting Castillo might make one of our SP expendable.

I like the move, this is what winners do...hopefully it pays dividends. I am always leary of pitchers that change leagues,. There will be a learning curve but I think he will do ok this year.

Biggest move they have made at the deadline in the 25+ years I've followed the m's. Looks like I'll have to go to a game for the first time since Griffey visited as a member of the reds. He hit 2 hr's and we still won 3-2 😎

What? We are 7th. How do we not have pitching? We are 23rd in offensive scoring. We need bats.

I love getting Castillo. Love it. He will be the Ace the rest of the year. His ERA and K/9 in a Ms Uniform is unmatched besides Randy. That is how good he is.

I wanted him. We got him. We need 2 bats now.

Prospects make it into MLB only 40% of the time. Its a win.

We couldnt have talked them into Kelenic instead? Oh well, happy to finally have an ace on a team with a legit shot at the playoffs. Maybe he will re sign with the M’s?

Castillo basically becomes our best pitcher. Tough that we had to give up our two top prospects in Marte and Arroyo, but neither were going to help us in the next couple years. The earliest they would likely be up would be 2024. As long as we make the playoffs and he helps us get there, then I'm okay with it.

Love the trade. I'm assuming the asking price for Soto was twice what we just gave up for Castillo. This trade becomes one of the best trades in franchise history if Castillo keeps up his amazing year, performs equally as well next year, and we sign him to a multi-year deal thereafter.

Side note, I hate his spin move after each pitch.

Looks like we could have got Soto for the price of Castillo to me.
