Looking at the schedule, there are 3 weeks left until the bye. Sounds like the tackles won't be back for 2 weeks. Given the closeness to the bye, do the Hawks hold them out that extra week so they can also rest over the bye or do they try to get them in the game that third week to get a little rust off before facing the Saints after the bye?

Yeah I'd bring them back and then give them the break to deal with any lingering issues and continue to get their conditioning back.

Silver lining is our next three opponents are in the bottom third in the league for sacks and dont have dominant pass rushes.

I just hope our O-Line holds up when that a*shole Schiano tries to rush the victory formation.

Why do I feel like that won't matter and they'll look like the '85 Bears vs. our teams' dreadful o-line?

That's against lines not as horrible as Seattle's...the line we're fielding right now could make Lawrence Jackson look like an All-Pro.

The game before the bye seems like the ideal time to me (assuming they're ready). This would give them an extra week to recover from first-game soreness. Neither guy has taken a hit in weeks (months?). It's going to take them a long time to recover after their first game back.

After re-watching the game the other day a couple of things stood out.

• Penalties- They absolutely killed our first two offensive possessions, which really took its toll early on. In the first drive Sweezy's Hold cost us a first down and pinned us inside the 10 with a first and long. Short punt and a few plays later they scored a field goal. Second drive Sweezy's second hold negated a 17 yard run by Lynch again pinning us inside the 10 with a first and long. Luckily Irvin's interception (deep on our side of the field) stopped them from scoring again. This has been beaten into the ground all season. The point is not to pick on Sweezy but to highlight how the penalties are killing us and making bad teams look good against us. The Rams had their fair share of Penalties as well but these two in particular took the wind out of our sails early and we struggled to recover. Pete has talked virtually every week this year about limiting turnovers and improving on our penalty situation. With the starters in there I would like to think that we improve in this area.

• Blocking- I am not sure what Bevell (or Cable?) is teaching these guys but I suspect that at least 5 of Wilsons sacks the other night were the direct result of a guy running untouched into our backfield. It was like every play was a screen. I could understand if you get beat on a block but these guys were frequently not even being engaged at the LOS. I watched a few plays where McQuistan opts to double the guard and just leaves the DE uncontested. Just a matter of time before this results in a major injury to Wilson. The only conceivable solution is to get McQuistan back into the Guard spot post haste. He is serviceable there and he doesn't draw a lot of penalties so that’s a good thing. He is absolutely not a Tackle and I think he would agree with you. He looks positively terrified out there at times. With Okung back we can keep a TE on the opposite side to help out Bowie until Breno is back and I think you will see an immediate improvement in both pass protection and run blocking.

I'm watching through the sacks right now.

First sack . . . Quinn beats mcQ on an inside move where he just powers through Paul. But Wilsn had good time, and probably should have tried to muscle the pass to Baldwin who posted up a hook pattern. He wasn't open, but he had body position.

I also thought that about Long's last sack. Long got him around the ankles, but he had Miller on a 7 yard out. Tough to say if he could've gotten that pass off or not.

Sounds like Okung will be ready to go when he's cleared, not sure about Breno, but it doesn't sound like they're going to hurry him back in there. Nor should they. We're 7-1, and Russell hasn't shown as much as a limp yet. I'm not condoning letting him get beat up, but the next few weeks we won't have to face the same challenges at DE.

I was thinking he could, but its like he rather take the sack then risk a pass that he's not confident in.

Which I'm actually fine with.

I think Sweezy's two early penalties derailed this entire game. I will pick on him (and Cable for continuing this experiment). He got them at the worst possible times and at the worst possible field position. He eliminated any hope of running the ball those first two series and that effect filtered its way to the rest of the game. We weren't able to put St. Louis's D-line on their heels for the rest of the half, and they dominated the time-of-possession battle in the second by exploiting our increasingly gassed run-D.

Honestly, I think there's been waaaay too much hand-wringing over this game and Bevell/Carroll's decision-making. This entire game plays out differently if Sweezy doesn't get those two costly penalties deep in St. Louis's territory.

But yes, our Tackles aren't good. Better edge-protection could have helped the team re-establish itself after those penalties.

On that one Miller's back was to Wilson right as Wilson was going to pull the trigger. Best case that pass falls incomplete. Worst cast it hits Miller helmet or pads or ???? And is picked off. That was a case of Wilson being safe.

Oh Jesus, is our oline THAT bad? What about Lawrence Jackson with Arron Curry lined up over him?
