The people who think Purdy is going to be paid $53M per year probably think Lawrence is being paid $55M per year...but whatever. Can't let reality get in the way of mocking the 49ers.

I think elite, especially at QB is a guy who can never be counted out. A guy that defenses have to specifically game plan for. Hes a guy that automatically makes the players around him better. A guy that wills his team to victory. For awhile Me3 was elite or at least extremely close.

Look at Purdys record with his offensive weapons healthy vs when they are out. Hes a good QB who can utilize the weapons around him. Elite? No. $53mill/year worthy. Market value and timing.

Nicely worded, and probably very true. How many games would that win, or should I say additional games? In the end of the day, no points for how a team loses, not?

He's every bit as good as Goff, Tua, J Love and T Law all who get paid this much so not sure how you avoid it other than trading him
Every day that went by this off-season I got more nervous that SF was going to find a way to get out of paying Purdy top QB money by trading him or talking him into a discount. Thankfully the team had no leverage and Purdy forced their hand. Now SF has signed the contract that will likely sink the franchise for the next 5 years.
Soon it will be evident that Purdys value was as overblown as bay area real estate, that this contract stinks as bad as the streets of SF and the future of the franchise is as dark and gloomy as their sky.

He's the best QB in the NFC. If he's not elite, there arent any in the conference.
You're definitely coming across as more of a Rat than a Hawk. Purdys definitely not elite. I believe Purdy and Darnold are similar in that they are capable of being as good as the team, coaching, scheme around them but not much better. 10/10 I like the Hawks situation, trajectory, potential over the 9ers.

But in a couple of years (and maybe even this year) with injury plagued McCaffery, a questionable stable of receivers and an aging OL - how will this deal look? Without those first rate weapons for the 9ers - Purdy is going to look pretty average. JMHO.
Like last year
Here on dot net, 49ers weren't quick enough to sign Darnold this offseason, a common occurrence for poorly run franchises. That's how our great Schneiders, John and Willie snatched Darnold. Not only that, Darnold sacrificed tens of millions just for that John Schneider QB certification.

Cry and envy, 49ers.
They had Darnold in the building for one full year and chose to spend more money on Purdy, so you are making points against yourself saying this.

They had Darnold in the building for a year....and weren't spending money on Purdy yet. They had to spend on Bosa, CMC and a few other players. Their decision was based at least in part on who they were already paying....and Purdy was cheap and certainly not the weak spot.

The only better QBs are Burrow, Mahomes, and Allen. This was the right move. I was hoping their front office was as dumb as our fan base and weren't going to make the obvious move and pay him.
😂. He’s mid. Not even top 10. Stop with the Purdy and sanders hype.

If Shannahan had the choice of any of the 2024 rookie 1st rounders or Purdy, the only one he takes Purdy over is JJ. Not one HC would take Purdy over Williams, Daniels, Maye or Nix after last year. And after a full year as a starter, Penix will also be above Purdy.

53 is not elite money in 2025. That starts at 56/ 20% of cap. 53/19% is solidly second tier.

His guarantee is $181/ $36.2 APY which will keep him just under 13% of 2025 cap space, should he continue to produce like he did last year. Hardly a crippling number.

Niners did a phenomenal job on this contract — protecting the team, while allowing Purdy to bet on himself.

It’s safe to assume that, for Purdy to make 53, he will have to perform at MVP level, and the Niners will be having the kind of success that warrants paying him 53. As a Seahawks fan, I hate to see it, and I’m envious of their front office.

I projected the contract would be between 51 and 55, and I believe that’s right where his value lies. The structure of the contract appears better for the Niners than I was hoping for.

Next up is probably Lamar Jackson. I assume he will sign an extension this summer, and he will be looking to pull something north of Prescott’s 60.

I doubt he gets that, but 58 ish is a reasonable guess.

Hurts might also take a stab at it, though the Eagles have far less incentive to rework his contract, than the Ravens do to rework Jackson’s. Can Mahomes next deal be all that far off? Seems ripe for renegotiation.

I was shocked by the extension IMO Purdy is a product of the system. I was expecting the deal to be done after July camp to give Shanahan more time to evaluate Mac Jones. The good business decision would be to go with Jones who is presently on a 2 yr $8.4 million contract
You could say he’s a product of the system but there’s been other QBs there that couldn’t do it

Second tier money is pathetic…
