If it weren’t for Cal’s bat and Munoz’s saves, Ms would be a .333 team. Conversely, if Ms decisively upgraded just a couple of positions, e.g., Garver and Tellez — and maybe Cole Young is a step in that direction — they could threaten to win the AL West. I realize it's not necessarily as simple as that, but still.

It would make sense, but I am not holding my breath.

Yep I said the exact same thing lol. Without Cal this team is well below .500. It's pathetic. They are going to waste an all time great season from a catcher if they don't fix the line up. It's a joke franchise. Cal is the new Felix. They are going to piss on his career.

I worry Jerry is ignoring that Cal is doing all the winning for us and is overlooking the holes. I hate to say it but Cal needs to go into a slump for Jerry to see we have holes elsewhere and Cal is doing all of the heavy lifting.

They have the farm system to crush the trade deadling and go for it. You have your pitching hopefully getting healthier for the second half so get some bats to help. I just don't have any faith that this ownership cares about winning. Baseball is killing the sport by not forcing teams to compete like the NFL does.

Keep hearing on KIRO radio that the team is "prepared to make significant moves" this year at the deadline.

Hearsay, and the track record is not great TBS. We need bats, of course, but we also need some arms in the bullpen. There is another month for guys to show some improvement, but what they need is some ruthless moves that moves some underperformers.

If Jerry needs Cal to go into a slump to see what is painfully obvious to everyone else, then he's grossly incompetent at his job. But we already know that. We really don't need further proof of that fact than the past 2 off seasons.

I hope I'm proven wrong. I really think there is a core here that could make this team very dangerous so lets go for it.

At this point they need better production from 1B, 2B, 3B, RF, LF, and DH. 1B, 2B, 3B, and DH were desperate needs after last season and they did essentially nothing to improve any of those spots during the off season. The bullpen has been struggling too, so probably need some help there as well.

That's a shit load of holes to fill in the middle of a season.

damn that is a lot when you put it down in writing lol. I would love some help at the corners and hoping Young turns out to be decent this year along with the pitching getting healthier.

You did took what little wind I had in my sails away though lol

Unfortunately JERRY is the one making the trades. We all know how those turn out..

You don't think they need better production from CF?

For the "face" I think they need a lot more production.

Not mention SP's have not been what they were last year except Brian Woo

1B Tellez, 2B Mastrobouni/Young, 3B Williamson/Mastrobouni, RF Taveras, LF Arozarena/Mastrobouni, DH Polanco.
They're definitely not short on actual baseball talent.

Cal just hit the go-ahead HR thankfully. Unfortunately, at some point these other teams are going to stop pitching to him & dump it on Arozarena. They can't keep letting Cal beat them & everyone SHOULD know by now that Randy Arozarena has been washed up for 2 1/2 years.... That's the guy you make beat you.

Yeah, I do. But Julio appears to be trending in the right direction lately, and he's done the thing every season so far where he starts hitting much better in mid to late June.

That's all well and good. My issue with that is games lost in April/May cost the exact same as a game in August/September.

I'm not remotely happy or satisfied with Julio's production so far. We definitely need better from him. I'm just not as worried that he will continue to under perform as I am with all the other guys.

And yes, I'm well aware that every game counts the same regardless of whether it's April or September, but I'm not really sure what that has to do with this particular conversation.

The off season is the when these issues should've been fixed. 1B, 2B, 3B, and DH all desperately needed to be upgraded and were obvious, glaring needs. But as usual Jerry went dumpster diving instead of adding any quality bats that could have made a difference. I don't blame him for the OF situation because most, including myself, thought an OF of Julio, Arozarena, Robles, and with Raley as the primary backup, would be pretty good. Robles and Raley got injured, Arozarena just sucks now I guess, and Julio has had his usual slow start. I don't really know what they can do at this point because there are just so many needs and holes to fill. Getting a bat or 2 is doable, but 6 or 7? Plus a couple arms for the bullpen? I just think that's waaay too much to try to fix in the middle of a season.

Before I say what I'm about to say, I want to make one thing crystal clear. I would never, ever, actually physically assault anyone over baseball (or damn near anything really), and I would never condone such a thing.

That said, I sure feel like I'd like to beat the ever loving shit out of Jerry the dipshit moron Dipoto. That asshole has absolutely ruined baseball for me. It's beyond maddening watching this fool continue to destroy any chance the M's have or had of ever being actual contenders, and watching him do it year after year.

Please GTFO Jerry. Go ruin someone else's team, you god damn idiot.

Not only do they need more production out 70% of the position players, but better production from the starting and relief pitching too. When the Mariners fall, they fall hard.
A couple bats at the deadline likely won't be enough if the pitching doesn't get turned around soon.
