Does anyone think the move to LA has disaster written all over it?

They couldn't fill a 30,000 stadium for their first home game. A lot of areas with tarps and a lot of hawks fans there.

I would be expecting any NFL team to fill a stadium with at least 50-60,000 people no matter how bad the team is. The chargers should be selling out a 30k stadium.

The team don't know where they'll be training next year.

Tickets are supposedly around $200 each.

On top of that there is a lot of sports competition and things to do in LA with the Rams only having been there for a year.

I can't help but feel if the Chargers get off to a bad start to the season that they could be in trouble.

Never should have left San Diego. Spanos insists a 1/4 of the Charger fanbase is in LA. I call bullshit. I would bet they will sellout every Raider game, who are massively popular in LA. Spanos is an idiot.

Actually it may be a better situation for them to start small which allows them to build roots in Los Angeles at a slower pace. Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles have no legitimate reason not to be able to support two teams. This nation has 350 million people in it and the population is exploding in Texas and the greater Midwest where I live.

The Chargers have virtually zero footprint in LA but it doesn't matter. Just being in LA will probably double the team's value & the new LA TV money will probably more than make up for the loss in ticket revenue.

Will they win though? They have a good but ageing QB but a lots of holes in their roster. The Rams may be the team that improve and that all depends on how good/bad Goff is long term.

This is really what it's all about.

When you're a 93 year old owner, you're looking to leave your mark and legacy on your organization. All Spanos cares about is getting his kids and the team into a more favorable market and situation, and as much as I hate this move...........it makes sense from his point of view.

And let's face it, the team tried a dozen times over the past couple decades to get a new stadium built in San Diego. SD is just as an apathetic market and bad sports town as LA is, so it's not like the team left some amazing fanbase and situation.

Nope. The blackout rule is still suspended on an ostensibly 'year-to-year basis', but that's only because the NFL doesn't want to admit the FCC would've slapped them across the hand and forced them to repeal it if they didn't stop enforcing it.

I would take a SD written article with a grain of salt on how it will work out down in LA. Of course it is hugely slanted.

IF (and yes that is a BIG IF) they win then they can easily win over fans and get it going. The issue is Chargers has shown themselves a LOT more proficient in losing a game the last five minutes than holding on to a lead.....

The best performing team will most definitely take ticket sales away from the other team.

Visitors to LA that wants to see a game, locals that like football but don't care about either team YET will go with the winning team. Kids that are just excited to hear there is a football team in town will go with one of these and sometimes the opposite of their friends or parents just to spite them.

It is delusional to think that if the Chargers are performing on the field it will not take seats away from the Rams. Now it could be argued that if both do marginally well they may simply help each other by building interest in the town, but if one performs crappy and the other gone good - good luck
