Why in the heck they don’t fire him ??? I see nothing special in this D since Week 1. Constantly allowing 300-400 yards by opposite QBs and 30-40 points. Also worst D in League right now. Sorry about this negative post but I’m tired of seeing this bad defense.

Agreed, but why don't fans call for Nick Sorensen or Andre Curtis to get fired? Seems this is a huge area of concern.

i don't mind at all if they fire them. They have no clue how to defende 3rd downs and today we played against the best team (in converting 3rd downs). We got exposed. 2nd time we are playing a tough team and we get exposed. Only good sign in this game was pass rush in my opinion, but secondary failed to cover properly.

Agreed on Norton needing to go.

When does Seattle finally get a smart, creative, unique D coordinator
who can actually gameplan and create effective, opponent specific schemes?

I'm not of the school that you need to start firing people at the slightest sign of weakness.

But we've seen enough sample size of stats this year to know this defense is so so not good.

He is the worst DC ever to coach in the league.

That takes some doing.

Before, I thought he was just too ready to roll into soft zones or prevent at the drop of a hat.

Now I realize he just cannot do the job. It isn't lack of willingness to bring pressure. It is the lack of ability to understand how to be an effective DC. I don't think he has the intelligence to do the job.

I was shocked that Pete brought him back after the Raiders dropped him after he performed so terribly there. Mistake. Pete needs to look outside the organization.

You just don't treat friends like that. You just don't. Think about how he would feel? :sarcasm_off:

I don't know how effective firing him in the middle of the season would be, especially while we have a 6-2 record, but this defense is really bad. Not sure how much a new D coordinator could turn this around, but I am not against trying to find out.

If Norton is still here next year.... incomprehensible.

You cannot reward or condone just how this defense has been though, 6-2 or not. You have to set an example as a leader and a coach and drop the person that is leading the squad that is having the most problems because Norton is not delivering. It would mean that temporarily promoting someone on the staff to the job most likely, but the point of the move isn't that your future DC is secretly on the staff, but just that Norton doesn't deserve his job.

I agree that changing horses midstream has never been good idea, but they are 6-2 IN SPITE of the defense, not because of it. And the talent is there. Sure, it's no LOB, but has been mentioned, the sum of their parts is way less than the pieces. And that starts at the top.

Pete will never fire him. Unless they give up 100 per game for the next two years then maybe.

This $h!t didn't just start this season though.
This ^ And wasn't there some kind of talk about KNJ being on some kind of 'Hot Seat' at the end of last year? :229031_shrug:

Norton just seems to not know when to change/make adjustments. He appears to hold on to a bad scheme to long. Week in and week out. If he'd just adjust to what is happening earlier it might not be so bad. Its like he refuses to admit his plan isn't working during any given game.

I agree it was a huge mistake acquiring him after that terrible year in Oakland. He may be a good LB coach , but not a DC. Fire him and find a new DC or season is done. To be honest I don’t mind if it’s mid season. I’d rather see a solid run this year with a new DC , rather than seeing backup QBs (49ers) exposing our D like that. It’s obvious that he has no clue how to run a D . He has so much talent and we are conceding 30+ points per game and so many yards...

Except Del Rio was doing the same thing Pete is doing making a lot of the defensive calls.

Can this D get any worse? We have JAGs at RDE, but every other position has average or better talent and depth.

If I'm Pete, I'm lining up KNJ's replacement right now so I can make the change and gain some stability before the playoffs.

He is slow to make changes. He is slow to adjust.

I just doubt there is a future where Norton can even be an adequate DC.

He has had enough years to show something. He isn't likely capable.

No matter how great a player he was, he likely goes down as the worst DC to ever coach.

He should really, take it upon himself and resign. I mean how do you show up to work with a straight face?
