DK Metcalf
DK was a tremendous player and I wish we had been able to find a way to keep him, but he's not an ultra-agile, sharp in and out of cuts kind of guy. I hope we're not modeling JSN after him stylistically.

DK is fast as hell and explosive though. Hopefully the work JSN is doing will allow more of that without taking away from what he already does so well.

Two completely different players, I don't think JSN adding some muscle means we want him to be DK-lite. If anything, it's to help him beat press and absorb hits working across the middle of the field, along with enabling him to put a little more oomph into blocking.

All because he added a little muscle? Again, this isn't something new in the NFL.
Omg some of you are so insanely sensitive to anything resembling criticism that I can literally say that I hope what a guy is doing will make him a better player and people still complain about it.

And you're insanely negative. I just think you're blowing it out of proportion. Nothing more.
Not a big deal, just an observation.

I know they're completely different players; I was suggesting it was a poor example for that reason.

I think it's great he wants to become an even more complete player. It's smart of him to be doing what he is. There can be a point where these kind of transformations can ultimately be harmful, which we have seen before. I don't suspect it will get there, but I enjoy these discussions. I learn things from them, and it's helpful when some people are willing to be devils advocates. But others (not you specifically) scan these things and jump all over whatever they perceive to not be sycophantic enough.

I feel like I'm having this kind of conversation:

Person at high height looking over edge.

Me: Great view, huh? Be careful though, you don't want to fall off from there.

Outside observer: Why are you saying you think they're going to jump?

Fair points. Hard to express over a computer vs. in person.
I'm not obsessed at all. You just can't seem to be able to handle someone call you out on being incredibly negative, often.
Esp. lately. Positive outlook isn't wrong, negative isn't wrong. Just different ways of looking at things.
It just seems like more often lately, you're on everything the Hawks do sucks mode. ✌️

Wasn't even talking about the muscle/speed conversation. Was commenting on the 'hope they aren't modeling him after DK stylistically". That implies that you think there is a possibility that the team doesn't understand that.

All good, I think that is just the nature of fandom, and part and parcel of these types of conversations. Sometimes a devil's advocate is useful to examine all sides of an issue, sometimes they are needlessly giving weight to an issue that doesn't really matter.

I mean, you do realize what connotation you are bringing with the second part of your statement? Replace "jump" with "fall" and I think you have a more accurate description of what is happening here. Either way, it seems like you want people only to read your statements as you want them to be read, but give no such grace to someone replying to you. Conversation is a two way street, and you don't get to control all avenues.

I would be shocked if they didn't understand that. I think it would be stupid to suddenly change the game of our best offensive player entirely. You would certainly hope a competent organization wouldn't do something that unrealistic. Again, I was expressing why I thought it was a poor example.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you, while addressing your "hoping we aren't..." portion of your statement.

Wow. What's with the insults? You lose an argument and this is how you react?
People often react in ways like that when they are insulted AND accused of something they didn't do. Perhaps you have never actually been called out on your BS by another human being before, I don't know.

Never meant to insult you, and if that is how you took it, I am honestly sorry. Cheers.

Teams have done things that didn't make sense to me before. I don't think it's realistic, and if be outright shocked if they did, but anything is possible I suppose. I didn't think we'd be changing the game of a HOF-trajectory player in Jimmy Graham either.

For sure, let's hope MM and KK have a plan.

Meanwhile a shifty dude like Kenneth Walker is looking like Mr. Uuniverse. Guess he's going to be more a blocking bruiser type back now.

Muscles = slow.

This thread is a treasure trove.

Luckily JSN plays WR in NFL, if he were a professional golfer, bulking up has its consequences. Johnny Miller bulked up after months of chopping wood, which significantly altered his body and subsequently impacted his golf swing. This incident, along with a period of inconsistent putting, is believed to have contributed to a change in his playing style and reduced his overall tournament schedule.
That and Johnny Miller is an insufferable douche nugget. Every once in a while ill catch vid of an old tournament and remember what piece of garbage that guy was.

Walker gets hit a lot more. And "shifty" for a RB is different than it is for a receiver. And Walker has been hurt repeatedly.

Do I need to keep going? NBC only made so many promos.
