I think my main issue with Dipoto and the Mariners front office is that they do almost nothing in the offseason and then have to play catch up at the trade deadline.As much as I've been critical of Dipoto, I have to say in the last 12 months, he's managed to add Randy Arozarena, Victor Robles and Josh Naylor. Those are three solid bats.
His biggest accomplishment was signing Cal Raleigh for $17.5 million per year for 6 years before the season started. That's $6 million a year less than what JT Realmuto is getting. It's even less than Salvador Perez. It's a steal for one of the best players in baseball.
Someone of the caliber of Naylor should have been added in the offseason rather than a week ago. This is why we are almost always in the 54% win range, if we add before the season starts we likely add a few extra wins.
