Agreed. There's a big gap between #1 and #10 paid LB's in 2024. If JS can get him averaging $15m/year, sign him and don't look back. He may want Smith type cash and JS may have to pay it.

I hope your wrong as well. They can restructure Geno and possibly Lockett (if not on Lockett, I see almost 0% chance he's in Seattle next year...sadly it's the business). There are other players they can re-work/cut as well. Jones IV must stay a hawk!

I don’t even want him to make it to the open market. I understand not working on an extension in season but they can get to work on this now. He’s already said he’s leaving it up his agent so unless his agent pushes to see what’s out there I see no reason we dry ont get him signed before free agency.

Ernest's value in the eyes of the league has NOT been anything close to the value he has to us. With this in mind, Ernest's team is likely looking to lock in significantly more money from Seattle than he'd actually get on the open market.

My expectation is that we're letting him test the market and matching any offer he gets. If none of the offers are competitive or moving the needle for Ernest at all, then we'll come to something where both sides are happy long-term.

His team was probably looking for Pat Queen money from us in extension talks. He ain't getting it on the open market. If he does get that type of offer, then we're probably matching and he'd return.

I remember a GM that had a similar take. I hope you're correct and we don't follow the alter-scenario.

I agree on the take in principle...it is a negotiating period and both sides are engaging, even if they're "on a break".
