Jesse Williams, people. This dude had a knee proceedure and the word "arthritic" was bandied about and GMs got scared and then nobody took him early and they all kicked into herd mode and we ended up picking him up in the fifth round. JS traded up a few spots to make sure we got him. His knee has been green-lighted, he's a brute on the line, good pass-rusher, should've been a first round pick. Are you serious?

Did John Schnieder just rape another draft?

Not sure how Seattle wasn't in herd mode if they waited until the 5th to pick the guy. Feels good to compliment the FO after the tough times under Ruskell/Bob Ferguson-Bob Whitsitt/Holmgren but no need to go overboard. Until Williams plays for a couple of seasons and doesn't go all Tubbs on the team, I don't think I would be pumping my chest out much.

He's not that much of a pass-rushing upgrade, and this wouldn't be the first time that PC/JS gambled on an injury fall and lost (Thurmond). But even so, Jesse is a steal. Period.

Williams was a household name. The fact he dropped to the depths he did, should concern us all. Yes, we have JS superstar at the helm, but that doesn't make the rest of the GMs absolute imbeciles. I am of the opinion that we were in a luxurious position, unlike the others, and better positioned to gamble on the knee. if Williams can go / last...we stole him. If he can't, we will do fine without him. Win or lose this bet, it was an excellent decision to take the risk, IMO.

I don't think there's any great praise to be dished out here if it works out for Seattle. Williams was well known. This won't be another Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor type genius steal. It'll be because Seattle are in a better position than some of the other teams in the league and can afford to waste a pick if it doesn't work out.

Since I adopted him as a rookie I will say this...

For all you that are doubting this shrimp on the barb-ee are smoking crack. He's going to blow up o-Gaurds and be a sophmore pro-bowler.

He was never the 1st rounder he was made out to be anyway. I like Jesse and he's an absolute steal in the 5th, but there are some misconceptions about him. He's top heavy and his lower body isn't as developed as his upper body. He can bench 600 pounds, sure; but he doesn't anchor all that well as a 1 tech. Somewhat akin to Big Red. You can play him at 5 and 3 with success, but you put him down low at 1 or NT and the longer legs that don't have as good a base and he's a little out of position. Hill is probably a better 1 tech than Williams, believe it or not. Williams is in the backfield a lot, but doesn't quite close good enough to be a pass rusher.

We've essentially just picked up a couple of guys who are in the same mold as the two other guys. That 3 tech spot is going to be a tough battle though. Hill can play it, Williams can play it, I think we see Howard make a strong push, and I also think we even see Red get some snaps there in order to get the best guys on the field....due to the potential of Bennett being a good pass rusher at 6-4 287 and giving us a well rounded 5 tech. I love Red, but teams have been rolling, booting, waggling, etc to his side while only sending a RB or sometimes even naked and he just can't close. Bennett very well should be the 5 tech, IMO.

We do have a good line for sure though. Some good players will be cut. I'm hoping we go light at LB with Avril and Irvin picking up some strong side duties and potentially moving Wright to WLB next to Wags in order to, again; get the best players on the field. At this point it probably won't be like that all the time, but they're going to play around with it and see how it works.

When one has been around the team since 1976, you've see your share of Draft Day disappointments! However, to be judging which Rookie players are going to make the final cut even before the Rookie Mini Camp is a bit premature.....not that it really hurts anything.

Doesn't concern me in the least. The Hawks have three guys who can rotate at the 3 tech if Williams doesn't play a down. Anything from Williams is gravy.

Nope, yer too late doc., I've already bought in, now all we have to wait and watch for, is how Quinn uses his speed/weight combo to catch OG's off balance, and Williams opens the gate to one of our sack specialists.

The key is not just Schneiders brilliant drafting, it's also Carrolls style of giving everyone a legit chance. How many teams would have given Wilson, a third round rookie, third of the snaps in the camps? None. Williams will get his chance, whether his physique is up to it is the only question. Niners have the same situation with Lattimore except he is deeper in the depth chart and probably will not get a legit chance, just like the whole 2012 draft class never got their chance. Shows what an arrogant short-term coach Jim Harbaugh is and why our front office is better equipped for long term success. We have had a couple of decent 5th rounders Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman with JS drafting. Also, we drafted Toomer in the 5th who knows what we have there. With Williams, if he is healthy could very well be the best player we drafted this year. We also drafted Simon who could be a Sherman 2.0 and a hybrid TE/H-Back in Willson. I am looking forward to this training/pre-season quite a bit.
