Did the team strike out? Who knows for sure? He's not signed but maybe he wanted Fries money or flunked his physical? Do we know?

Perhaps he wanted to think about come to left coast before signing or they are still dickering over contract.

Let's all show some modicum of patience here. It's not as if this player was a perennial ALL Pro that we are missing out on.
LEFT COAST?

That's the first time I've seen someone refer to the West Coast as The Left Coast.

I mean technically, you're correct.

It's on the Left side of the map but....

Idk? Personally, if I were OL Coach Benton I'd rather assemble and build a young core of OL, than try to piece together an OL with leftovers that nobody wants anyway. Even if that means waiting 37 days until the Draft.

"Left coast" has been around for decades, and it is borderline political other than yes West is left on most maps.

Beyond drafting, JS and the FO have been famous for not signing our own guys and letting them go after their rookie contract runs out, thus letting a lot of good talent escape to other teams where they thrive. Now, we can certainly argue that 2d contracts for OL can be really expensive in many cases so there is a financial reason for that, but damn, it's hard to take sometimes. So many OL don't really flourish until that 2d contract rolls around, and we seem to miss out on a lot of that.

I've said many times, I suspect our current group of guys are not the dumpster fire some here think they are, and I believe our FO and coaches think the same. Sure they're always looking for "more talent" but not wanting to bust the budget for that. We're in transition anyway, I'm game to give our current guys a chance to see how they improve with more experience and some new coaching.

Sutz I totally agree! There is some raw talent on the team which could produce a few quality interior OLinemen. For quite some time I've suspected there is a special type coach to coach the big uglies and the Seahawks haven't been well staffed there so the development of the talent isn't as quick as it might be with better coaching. the results have been pretty dismal.

Losing Lewis hurt but then at that stage he team was in self created cap hell. JS' comment s then about paying him certainly weren't helpful. Of course there were others that played pretty well elsewhere after leaving the team. Was this planned, cap driven, or the result of a team belief the particular player wasn't as good as they turned out. In the case of Lewis the term dropped the ball strong argument can be made that it was planned and the team was only prepared to commit few resources to staffing the interior OLine. The results were predictable and now have JS playing catch up or have him in true damage control mode.

JS doesn't have the luxury of time on his hands on unless he thinks they will be ready to roll in 2027 as an OL unit.

It sucks being the GM. JS could nail this draft and still get fired. He'll be long gone as GB's GM (doubt it) and we'll be here on .NET complaining about Chuck Armstrong and Jody Allen (I already question her love for football).

I grew up only knowing East and West coast myself.

And Politics suck.

A hybrid approach is probably more sensible. You need some proven guys and then you also need to take some flyers on guys that could be the future. The problem with the draft is that you don't really know who has "it" and who doesn't.

They didn't have a good one then, either.

It's very interesting the way people assume they did.

They weren't a great pass blocking team (though some of that was on Russ) but weren't they near the top of the league in terms of run blocking?

Yep...top search results had a political edge...had to find one that wouldn't flame nerves and get the post removed.

If I remember correctly, they were...okay statistically. I remember a lot of Lynch's work being through contact, which of course is what he was famous for.
