Wrong. Remember how bad Chris Gray and Sean turnstile Locklear were..: Mora would still be looking for “dirt bags”.
Not that I was being serious anyway obviously, but Mora was our first coach of the Obama administration. It was pretty bad though. Big Walt had just retired and they moved Locklear to LT with Ray Willis on the right. It was the last year of the Chris Spencer experiment at center and I believe we had Unger playing one of the guard spots.

The OL had been in decline for a few years, but it had dropped off hard that season.

I thought our OL was at least somewhat decent early in his 2nd term, but I could be misremembering. I might be at the point where anything other than a dysfunctional mess looks "good".
Nah, you weren't misremembering, I was just hyperbolizing for the sake of a dumb joke when I was bored at work. Obviously those lines didn't recapture the glory of the early/mid 2000s, but some of them were middle of the pack at worst with Okung, Giacomini, Unger, etc.

Yes if we don’t sign him it’ll be akin to Frodo handing the one ring over to the wraiths and Sauron. The very Earth will be consumed by a black hole and space and time will cease to exist.
I was thinking more of the usual passive aggressive impotent whining but I guess that could work.

Jenkins, drafted in the 2nd round saw his first NFL playing time for the Bears when Jason Peters suffered an injury and he filled in at LT.
During the 2022 preseason, the Bears switched Jenkins from OT to RG. In 23' he moved to LG and was the Bears most improved player that year.
Don't really know how good he is right now but he seems like an improving player. Has a bit of an injury history and feels a little like a depth signing with high potential to start with upside.
This might be a solid option...?

If we could somehow sign both Kupp and Jenkins, I think we would be ready to build a draft board.
Only thing I will add is I think we sign a Fullback as well. It may be the draft when we get one but I think it'll be another cheap FA add.

Fingers crossed they’re able to come to a reasonable deal with Jenkins.

I understand the sentiment that the team has young potential on the O line, primarily at guard with Bradford, Haynes and Lumea, but quite frankly, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Haynes has been the biggest disappointment so far considering he had some troubling work ethic concerns last season, according to reports. Bradford as well. Lumea at least tried and was a late round pick.

If Jenkins is in the building, it not only solidifies one guard spot, it should light a fire under Bradford and Haynes, hopefully getting more out of everyone in that position group.

Wondering if they see Brady Russell getting reps there? Still think they sign someone though. It's a must for Kubiak's system.
I've wondered if they like Russell in that role, I just don't know. When I do mock drafts I always take Kalel Mullings out of Michigan. 6'2" 235 lbs. He seems like the ideal fit if we go the draft route.

Given that they might have NFL-standard coaching this year, I'm inclined to give them another chance if we don't splurge on an OL in free agency.
Yeah. I wonder how much being in pass pro shotgun 99% of the time wears down an offensive line that has to handle two defenders each because the offense is so predictable.

Not that we have elite players or even close on the oline but I bet with adequate coaching they aren’t near as shit as we want to think they are

Either way it's nice depth to have a guy like Russell that can play some TE, FB, and special teams.

I have faith in our line ptetty much as is. Cross is steady good. Lucas looks healthy. Haynes fits the scheme better and turns it around. Olu is ready and has his coming out. And we draft our starting LG early. They'll draft more depth and hopefully get better coaching along with a better scheme.

Lol, yeah. A small number of people venting their frustration over the ongoing state of the OL and yet another missed opportunity to possibly upgrade that OL is pretty much like acting like it's the end of everything in existence.

Fortunately, we have those of you that will help diffuse the situation by ridiculing and antagonizing those people over being frustrated that our OL has sucked since Obama was still in office. Because that always helps.
I’m really just here for the hugs and handys.

I think 75% of our O-line woes are from garbage coaching. When is the last time we had an accomplished O line coach?
Howard Mudd who had 2 stints with the Seahawks with the 2nd mid- late 90s then went to the Colts after they drafted Peyton Manning. Mudd is considered to be one of the best o line coaches in NFL history

The only way Jenkins hurts us is if he costs us more than he's worth.
I agree the longevity of our deficient O Line very well might be a product of less than stellar coaching. We have cut, released, and traded guys who went elsewhere and suddenly began to play better. So I am anxious to see what happens with our current roster under our new staff. But in addition to the coaching angle I definitely agree that John has not performed well supplying the level of talent we need there. The O Line is as important to offensive success as any other component. They make 'skill' players whatever they turn out to be, journeymen or stars.
Having said that Schneider is one of the best in the business.

I agree. Draft the best guard at 18 now. Let this team continue to develop. Day ******* 1 say these are the starting 5, now you guys become attached at the hip all spring, summer, fall and winter.

Run blocking is much worse than pass blocking

The more I’ve watched tape, unless he is super cheap skip it. Don’t sign just to sign. I’d be happier putting a pick 18 rookie at LG

I always blamed it on talent, but i'm starting to roll this way too.
I think its both? I expect guys like Haynes to improve with new coaches and experience but we still need a seasoned vet to upgrade people like Tomlinson. Biggest need is center. We've never replaced max unger over a decade later and trading him was the start of the decline

If we can get Jenkins to add to our Oline on top of the other moves we have made via trade an FA signing than I can't think anyone would have any room to complain about this offseason...though I am sure there are those that would. It just depends on what it takes to sign him although at this point in FA it seems like it wouldn't be a huge deal. It shores up our remaining biggest weakness and gives us that much more flexibility going into the draft. Even though I think our young Oline has a chance to greatly improve I think it would be a good move if it works cap wise.
