The Legion of Boom had 4 consecutive seasons of the best defense in terms of points allowed. That is amazing in any era, but in the salary cap era it is phenomenal. And they did that with their hands tied behind their backs in comparison to some of the great historical defenses like the Steel Curtain. The LOB deserves to be in the conversation of best defenses of all time, especially when you're not just talking about a single great season. (i.e., the 2000 Ravens)

I am a HUGE fan of what Macdonald has done with this defense. I love the accountability he puts on players and coaches. Time will tell if they'll be historically great. This year, they're the number 7 scoring defense (the only ranking that matters IMO). That's a huge improvement over the last few years, but not historic. We should pump the brakes on LOB comparisons and just enjoy what we're watching today, and hope they continue to improve.

The points allowed stat seems inflated with the very dodgy offensive playcalling and execution when playing with big leads… lots of TDs given up in near garbage time in the 4th q as fatigue eases our pass rush ferocity.
The unit is improving and getting healthier…. Exciting times.

Woah ! Pump the brakes! They are no where near the LOB stat wise. It’s debatable whether they are even the best defense in the league . And they have just faced the murderers row of cam ward and the 32 ranked offense and max brosmer and the 29 ranked offense

No but the legion of boom did have some head cases so there is that these guys sing committed as a team unnecessarily as individuals and I think that was one of the problems with the LOB ie Sherman, Thomas

Sorry LOB fans but with this D fully healthy this D is WAY better than the LOB. The way we get pressure with only 4 people is truly genius and the LOB never had that. The LOB defense was a very simple defense that the other teams figured pretty quickly. This current defense is very very complex and tougher for people to figure out.

So while I at first thought it was a little crazy based on per play efficiency this defense is better than LOB. I'll see if I can post the graph but it shocked me. Now they still have to finish it out as the LOB stamped it out with a dominating performance against the best defense of all time but at least on paper this defense is playing lights out.

So I still think the LOB was better and possibly the best defense of all time. This defense appears to be on the verge of being special as well.

I knew he would move the needle massively from where Pete was when he left but I don't think anyone could've predicted he was this much better at this stage of their careers. He is the McVay of defenses.
