Threw this together a minute ago because Sherm had mentioned offensive PI on that last call. If you're the ref, do you call that a push off in that situation?

Tough to tell from the gif. Would need a RT/slo mo clip to really see. WRs have been getting away with a lot of pushing off the last few years. Sherm is bigger than most DBs, therefore Crab's push off was ineffective.

I wouldn't call it. I wouldn't have called OPI on D-Jack either.

The gif starts at the end of whta would be PI. My guess is you need 2 more seconds prior to review which probably wasn't in the broadcast tape

Is it Offensive pass interference? By the book I'd say yes, but I've said it before and I believe it to be true even when the call goes for another team....in that situation they just need to let them play unless the play is completely egregious. It wasn't here and it was a good no call.

Wouldn't have been called (obviously cause it wasn't) but his direction was initially with crabtree but is shifted mid air away from him because of that push.

It is OPI but would never be called as evidenced by never being called when committed virtually every pass play by both crabtree and boldin. Thus, the hypocrisy of Harb whining about supposed PI from our press coverage.

The opi on D Jack was garbage it is supposed to be interfering with the other players ability to get the ball. The only way that defender in that case were to get the ball was go through D Jack. Crabtree may have pushed but certainly not enough to mess up Sherman.

I'm glad there was no call. I wish there was no call on the hold earlier in the game. Both were grabbing each other, Crab pushed off, Sherm grabbed his shoulder pad. Physical football at its best.

Of course it's OPI and Kearse and Tate have both been called for less clearing out than that this year. No way is it comparable to Jackson's "OPI" where he didn't move the defender off his spot, merely swatted the defenders hand fighting away. Crabtree gained clear advantage and if it were any other corner in the game, that's game over. Only Sherman's length saved it. Just crazy. However, they would never call OPI like that at this point in the game. It was a great play by Kap and Crabtree, and better defense.

It didn't change Sherman's position even though Crab's arms were extended, so no, I didn't think it was OPI. DB's do it all the time, it's just kind of a tactful thing to feel where the other player is so that you can line up for a catch and prevent your space from being interfered with in the process.

Very, very similar to D-Jax in XL except they called him for it.

Nah, that's not PI.

I think the letter of the rule is the offensive player has to fully extend his arm to push off before it's offensive PI.

My gif doesn't show it well at all but the arm in the back definitely changed Sherman's trajectory. If you watch the slow-motion video from the broadcast, it's clear that it had an impact. My question was meant more toward whether or not you call that in the final seconds of the game. As was pointed out by at least one other person, Sherman's length is the only thing that saved that from being a TD.

According to the rules? Probably. Would I want it called? No.
