But what’s even funnier other than my post, is half of you “Russ sucks, Russell cares more about his image, he’s a fake he’s a square” the other half of you basically “were screwed because there’s not other talent that comes close to holding Russell’s jock strap.” Then there’s a small portion who are like Aros, which is “let’s give the kid a chance to see what he can really do” But even then ya wanna trash a thread about how preemptively were screwed, he’s hopeless and Geno is garbage.

It baffles me how if it’s not Russell or some rookie JAG like Willis… y’all are throwing fits.

Lock is…not the long term answer. Wait and see? He couldn’t beat out Bridgewater. You don’t really need a crystal ball here. He may do “just ok”…and that’s fine…for now.

Our future QBs services will be obtained in the next draft.

As for Russ…the hate is funny. Everything changes. He wanted a different style offensive scheme over PeteBall. Fair enough. I expect him to do well, like he has most of his career.

But that’s Denver.

We’ve got an exciting future ahead but if folks think Lock is the answer, I’ve got a top-tier DE who just got his 5th year option declined that I’d like to trade you. Just need a little patience with him. Time to develop.

The Bears want the next Josh Allen too. Ask them how long they have been looking. Getting a 10 ten QB in a league of 32 teams is actually not a given.

Especially when you consider that most top 10 QBs stay there for years, sometimes over a decade. It is very difficult to get a great QB but almost impossible to be a regular playoff threat without one. You can squeak into a SB through great matchups and luck, look at the Eagles. And you might even win it. But you won't win for 10+ years which a great QB almost assures you.

Even worse chances if you focus on running the ball, the list of great running teams in the league without great QBs is generally a list of losers and playoff flameouts.

Most are not even regular winners.
You need a great QB and those are rough to get. But QB might be the most important position in all of sports. The quality of your QB is usually even more important than the quality of your coach. At least in the past 7-8 years, certainly the last 5.

Definitely - finding your franchise QB is not a given at all. It's damned hard to do so. But a very good chance presents itself next year. The Hawks will likely end up with a top 15 pick. Combine that with Denver's pick in the first round. The Hawks also have TWO second round picks. They will have the ammo needed to trade up, for one of top QBs in the draft. This opportunity would not be available if Russ was on the team.

With Russ, you're gonna get a B, B+ ceiling with the team. I'm looking for S-tier here. And it will be within reach.

Lock, Geno, stop gap, whatever. It doesn't matter. It will still be entertaining to watch nonetheless. But I have my eye on the bigger prize.

Agreed, that's why i wanted to keep Russ. He took us to the playoffs pretty much all his career. You just need to get to the playoffs and maybe with some luck who knows. I could have gone another 5 to 6 years with Russ here. After the HOF QB is done, then we can do this silly rebuild.

OH Gawd i think Drew's nickname is Drewsky. Cant get hyped at all with this guy. Then we have the QB who looks drunk all the time Geno. Both are terrible underpressure...I think this was probably Russel's greatest strength was his poise under pressure.

Well we know Smith improved his TD/INT ratio and completion percentage in Waldron's offense relative to his numbers early in his career. Can Lock do that? Time will tell, but I think people are underestimating Smith more so than Lock IMO.

Both Smith and Lock can push downfield but I think Smith is the better "point guard" than Lock at this point when it comes to short to intermediate passes. But Lock has that arm talent that is hard to deny.

Fix Lock's foot mechanics and most of his skittishness and inaccuracy in the pocket goes away under pressure. But pressure is when most mechanics break down for most QB's, especially like Lock.

Geno in comparison keeps his feet properly aligned to pass downfield or in the short to intermediate areas of the field even under pressure. His mechanics at this point are purely vastly superior than Lock's.

When PC says that Geno is the front runner of the QB competition at the moment that just reinforces what I have seen with my own eyes.

It's just 1 analyst's opinion, but I don't think it's far off. There seems to be a belief on this board that the Seahawks insisted on Lock being part of the trade. It may have been the Broncos who were insistent that Lock moved. Either way Lock has a better reputation with Seahawks fans than he does with Broncos fans, so his inclusion made the deal easier to sell to both fan bases.

Smith threw 810 passes in his 1st 2 NFL seasons. He threw only 101 passes during the next 6 seasons combined. I don't think there's much to be gained from comparing early Smith to inactive Smith or 2021 Smith. I thought Smith looked hesitant in 2021. Some of the sacks were due to indecision. I think Lock is better than Smith, but neither is a top 28 QB. Smith's history with the Seahawks makes it a close contest.

I am not worried. We won't move forward until we get a better QB, and we need both Lock and Geno to be terrible to assure ourselves the draft slot.
Geno is already terrible, and I am pretty sure Lock can be with Carroll helping him.

If, and that's a big if, Lock and limit his turnovers, then he will be a competent bridge quarterback until we draft the next franchise QB. Sort of like Jackson in 2011.

He had some of the most boneheaded throws in Denver I've ever seen.
Let me tell you guys how bad Lock burned me personally. Fantasy draft 2020 season, 10 man league with a $200 buy in. Guess who drafts Lock in the 4th round and proudly tells the group that he's just found the next great QB, after I did the same thing with Mahomes in 2018? That's right, Jerhawk did. Needless to say, Lock was dead weight on my team. He threw balls into triple coverage like it was going out of style. Is that Courtland Sutton down there? Let's hope so, because I'm throwing it down there. That was Lock's mentality.

If he doesn't try to force it into DK, and actually manage the game, he will be an above average QB. Otherwise, Pete won't play him and Geno can lead us to a top 3 pick.

Russ is more likely to disappoint than Lock is likely to fail.

Russ has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to succeed. Lock has no expectations from anyone.

Russ has always considered himself better than he actually is.

If Russ is as good as Mahomes (whom he wants to be paid like) he wouldn’t need to ask Carroll to “Let Russ Cook.”

I like the QBs coming out and the general consensus is that we’re grabbing one. But…imagine Lock actually working out. Not like Russ working out but, maybe throws for 175 a game, minimizes turnovers,spreads the ball around (middle included), throws a check down here and there while Penny and Walker average 200 between them (this is my fantasy…hush).

New system for Lock…and Russ. Maybe Pete has the touch with this guy. Im taking the safe route and saying I don’t believe it’ll happen but if it did…

Of course I am not comparing Lock to Montana but both QBs have / had a bevy of weapons at their disposal and If Lock can get adequate protection and manages to get the ball into the hands of those weapons? Game management may be all we need from him.

Terry Bradshaw took about 4 seasons to develop into a good QB. Jim Plunket sucked for nearly a decade before turning things around in Oakland/LA. Johnny Unitas was cut by the Steelers but I think he had an ok career in Baltimore. Josh Allen was pretty lame at first with Buffalo but has definitely turned the corner. Tannahill floundered in Miami but has played very well for Tennessee.
In most cases in the decades before the 90's, QB were usually developed for a season or two, even the top Picks. Some teams threw in the Rookies but suffered the losses.

I respect what you're saying, but Ryan Tannehill stunk for seven seasons! Only one year of those with a winning record.
And Josh Allen was good to great right out of the gate(barring an early injury).
