It averages $51 million per year. In the last year of his contract, Soto will be 41 years old.

The larger concern is whether last year's 41 HRs was an anomaly. Outside of last year, Soto has averaged 26.6 HRs per year.

Great player, but boy, that's a lot of money.

You could make the case he's had the best first 6 years ever hitting wise
No question Soto's been amazing since he first started. By any measure, he's a great player. His WAR and OPS are off the charts. In 2020, his OPS was 1185! In the last four years, he's averaged about 130 walks a year.

But he's only one player. It's not like the QB on a football team. For that price, you could have both Bryce Harper and George Springer.

And consider that the Athletics entire 2024 payroll was $62 million. And $51 million would be more than 50 percent of the payroll of 5 other teams.

Most players once they get paid never live up to the contract.

No. He hits a baseball about 30% of the time. 25% of the time if you include all the walks that don't get counted.
