Interesting: Peyton really is mediocre in cold weather

Ok, so everyone has heard it said about Peyton; that he's not the same QB in cold weather outdoors. Well, there's more evidence to support that assertion than I was aware about; I don't know about the rest of you. The head guy at Football Outsiders, Scott Kacsmar, put a good post up on his blog where he actually semi-denounces this assertion about Peyton, then provides some pretty strong evidence to back it actually being an issue for Peyton, heh.

Peyton's career record in outdoor games that were 40 degrees or colder consists of 18 total games with eight wins, 10 losses. A lot of the Peyton defenders (for the record, I'm a big fan of Peyton, have been for a long time) have said that it's a skewed stat because most of the time those cold games were in the playoffs against great teams. Well, only four of those 10 losses were in the playoffs. The remaining six were all in the regular season. Peyton Manning has never won an outdoor playoff game in cold (hell, even 'cool') weather. He has had four opportunities and lost them all.

I think I just became more of a fan of facing the Broncos in the Super Bowl this year, since it'll be the first cold weather one in a long time. I found this very interesting.

Yep, I don't trust the NFL to call a clean game when they can hand an NFL legend a Lombardi and a ring as a going away gift...... Tags was a deceitful bastard, and Rog is worse!

...and not only is Manning's play traditionally suspect in cold weather, think of his pending plight after 3 neck surgeries. Arthritis is a given and while the source will be his neck, the symptoms will appear thru-out one arm or the other. Depending on the severity, the hand will also be effected.

I will say here that I do not recall if it was the throwing arm side of the neck, but having had this procedure myself, believe me when I tell you, it don't much matter. He will be effected regardless of which side the pain radiates to / through. I applaud his resolve. Peyton's rep is as a legendary QB, but he is now officially a legendary warrior, as well.

This is going to sound crazy, but I would rather see the Broncos than the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. It is supposed to be snowy and freezing according to long-term forecasts for the East Rutherford area. I know, I know, lots can change, but in that weather, I would rather play bump-and-run with Manning and his receivers than have to play a team that can get pressure with four, run the ball, and stop the run.

In all, my concern is more with this team making it through a really tough NFC in the first place than with who the AFC Champ will be.

This part, to me, is ridiculous. Yes folks, I know..."it's football", but there should be no advantage for any team over another in deciding a championship. What if SD fought their way to the SB, but had to play GB in the snow?

Further, such weather just complicates the logistics of everything, from the media to the fans, etc. A big reason I do not plan to be in attendance.

Same here. I do not want Manning anywhere near the super bowl, not because our team isn't better, because the NFL isn't exactly honest.

Other than snow, which is in the NJ forecast, I don't argue with any of the other elements you reference. For the most part, some more than others, but all cities in this country are subject to wind, rain, etc. I believe snow gives some teams an advantage over others. That my only point.
